Good Calculator for AP Stats and AP Calc Bc

Hi CCers,

I am taking ap stats and calc bc next year. i have a ti 84, but i really love the cas system. so i am thinking of changing it to hp 50g, or ti nspire.

our entire class uses the ti 84, some people with ti nspire cas.

can i succeed in stats with hp 50g? i have 2months in summer to learn RPN, ...etc.

So.. which one should i buy?

thanks

Ti 89 works great because the Practice of Statistics (great textbook for self-study) and other Stats textbooks are usually catered to the Ti89.

now it’s neither of the choices you’ve posed, but I think it’s your best option. :)

Getting a TI-83 Plus, TI-84, or a TI-89 is advisable as a lot of textbooks cater to learning these calculator method in Stats. Your class will likely focus on methods through these calculators so that would be best. A TI-89 is nice, but for the calc AP exam you won’t be able to use its extra features on much of the test, so I don’t necessarily advise it.

for me, i used different calculators for each math: TI-84 for AP Stats and TI-89 for AP Calculus. (I saved money by switching calculators with my friend)

I can vouch for TI-84 for AP Stats. It’s thorough, yet simple.

Ante LISTEN TO ME!!! I had the same question a few months ago and disappointingly, no one on CC helped me.
GET THE TI 89
I am self studying for stats, and it is sooo easy to use. The Stats W/List Editor makes everything so easy. Just today, a friend of mine asked me to help her with a problem-and she had an 84–working that thing was next to impossible.
The 89 is very convenient, and you will for sure need it for Calc.

Ti-89 is AMAZING! Get it! It will take you two weeks to figure it out completely but it is sooo worth it!

ask what your teacher uses

for ap stats my teacher used 84 calc 89
my stats teacher couldnt figure out where half the crap was on the 89 haha

get a TI89 and actually learn how to use it (symbolic differentiation/integration ftw)

if you don’t know how to use it, it’s pretty much useless

Honestly, a TI-89 is a little overkill. You can manage just fine with a TI-83 or TI-84. Because really, what you will need your calculator for does not require the TI-89s capabilities.

Stick with what you know.
