good communications programs? lost senior.

I think I want to be an editor, I want to be in communications for sure. Can anyone suggest schools for me? I have no idea how to tell what schools are good or not. Stay away from the south and the west, please. Northeast/midwest. Maybe even international.

I've got solid standardized scores and ECs so speak freely, please. Any help would be appreciated!

Look at Syracuse: http://newhouse.syr.edu/prospective/about/

Syracuse and Northwestern.

Indiana, Wisconsin, and Boston U.

any others? Syracuse looks great, but I've been to the city before and wasn't impressed... was I just completely wrong about it? BU and Northwestern work, too.

I take it you're aiming mostly towards midsized privates in cities?

Try American - although mostly known for politics and IR, they're supposed to have a really great communications school too. Plus, DC is a vibrant city.

Emerson, maybe? I've heard great things about it.

Or if your stats are as solid as you're implying, you could always try for Brown. I know a news editor who went there and loved it.

Trust me, if you go to Syracuse you won't do much in the city. I mean it is always there, but there is enough stuff to do on campus. The city is for people who want to shop but who don't want to any of the malls, or for people who want to go out to a nice restaurant. Other than that, people at SU stay on campus and have plenty of fun doing so.

what's going to get you going in the field is not the degree, it's your experience. I mean things like summer jobs and internships. You can major in anything and go just about anywhere; with the right experience you'll be the candidate they're looking for. It's true some schools have better programs and relations with alums/industry so you get a leg up getting that experience, so you need to find those schools. IMHO you need to focus on fit and you haven't mentioned much besides a region preference and not being impressed by Syracuse; if you don't enjoy the college you're not going to be able to make the most of your time there.
