Hello everybody!

I am another Stanford hopeful (me and 60,000 others) and i want to make my college resume look good. i am trying to do something extraordinary that will truly make me stand out. But what would be good things to do? i am currently in multiple positions of leadership but i feel like i haven't made enough of a difference to make these stand out.

On a side note, i AM learning how to make games for Android using Java, and hopefully i can spread my projects into iOS. if i accomplish this in time to put in my college resume, do you think it would stand out at all? thanks!

The only way you’re going to find an extraordinary activity is when you stop looking for one. You make activities extraordinary, not the other way around.

I second this opinion.

I would definitely agree with Francaisalamatt. I don’t think that it’s what you do that matters, but rather what you do with whatever activity you’re involved in. Let’s take, for example, tutoring. I’m pretty sure that many people on CC (as do I) tutor as a volunteer activity. So, if you were just to say, “I tutored 3rd graders in reading”, this isn’t going to really stand out. But, if you say “my tutoring inspired me to start a peer-to-peer tutoring program in an underprivileged part of my city,” that’s something that’s going to stand out because you’ve taken your tutoring to the next level and shown your passion for tutoring by investing more time and resources into a passion of yours.
