Good Emo Songs?

uhh.... yes. that totally has everything to do with music quality.

yeah seriously what has style of dress got to do with music. jimi hendrix dressed pretty weird by todays standards but he was a pretty ok guitarist. to say the least :)

Yeah, let's not even start dicussing what some of those people in the rap videos wear.

^^^um...was anybody even going to start?

and i agree that good emo music is an oxymoron. ok, maybe not ALL emo music...but uh...a good chunk.

yeah..the same can be said with good rap music. good country music. good pop music. it's all in the eye(or ear) of the beholder(or .....listener) haha,

true true. except for the good pop music. THAT's def an oxymoron. haha. jp.

i think good emo just kind of blends more into alternative or soft rock...in which case it isn't sooo emo as other emo crap is...which i guess is what allows it to be good. haha...ok ok not the most logical statement i've made.

Let's clear up some "good pop music". Ever heard Frou Frou? Natalie Imbruglia? Sting? Santana? Suzanne Vega? Antony & the Johnsons?

I liked torn from Natalie Imbruglia. lol.

Sting isn't pop...

again those are all good singers you listed but i don't consider the music itself to be very deep. the songs are catchy and the vocalists are talented but the backing band isn't all that special, and even if the backing band is good, the pop genre gives them no recognition. the songs are not musically complex or new.

me.duh,

not the "haha...jp" right after that statement. it's a joke. you know...those things you're not supposed to take seriously or get defensive about. yeah, one of those.

Sting came up as pop on iTunes.

And steering away from pop music...has anyone heard of Fruit Bats? I just discovered them and they're pretty much amazing.

Dashboard is said to be one of the first emo bands ever. They are very good.

I thought it was The Rites of Spring that was the first emo band.

They did say one of the first...why the need to be so technical?

And I'm not even sure what "emo music" is. I just listen to whatever I like, so I don't keep up with the genre names very well.

Shravas, did I say DC was the first emo bacnd ever? No, I didn't.

And I agree with katho11, I listen to whatever I feel is good music, no matter what the genre may be.

okay first of all.
screw all the emo haters.
i mean really whats your deal.
my god.
they asked for simple advice on music.
nobody wants to waste time out of their day reading about your opinions.
and second of all.
you might like mayday parade. rise against. papa roach. the used...and so on and so forth.

'Born To Raise Hell', by the infamous Motorhead.

It brings out lots of emotion, and isn't that what 'emo' is all about?

Goes back to his regularly scheduled bar-room-brawl

I think "good emo music" is an oxymoron.

Ha, ha.

In reality, though, "emo" is such a useless label. Just look at the bands you listed- Dashboard Confessional and Senses Fail, both emo? Clearly, something is flawed.
Ironically, the "true" emo bands of the 90s changed their sound so that they wouldn't be called emo bands.

Another thing that I find interesting is how people who listen to emo music talk on and on about how nonconformist they are and how much better their music is than the boring rap and pop on the radio... yet emo music uses the same simple structures as most pop tunes.

That all being said, if you like emo music, go for it. I like to get into discussions about music, so I kind of went on a rant there... but I listen to what I like, whether the band is critic-approved or not, so who am I to talk?

if you consider Boys Like Girls emo, they have some pretty good songs (hero/heroine; the great escape...)

all something corporate but especially konstantine!! such an amazing song

all taking back sunday
