Good for liberal arts?

It seems UIUC strengths are the sciences and business related fields but how about the liberal arts? I'm geared towards philosophy and classics (I love to learn) and I'm wondering if UIUC would be the place for me. I've visited the campus a few times and I love it, the rural setting doesn't bother me and the huge student population doesn't faze me. I looked at several liberal art schools but I don't think I can function for four years in such an environment since I enjoy sports and school pride. Yay or neh?

Have you checked Saint Louis University? I know a friend who's wanting to major in philosophy and he did aot of research and really liked SLU.
I applied to UIUC as an art major. I know it's really not that great of an art school, but I know I'd really enjoy the sports, pride, and campus. If I do end up going there, it's be because I like the school and have a couple friends going, not because it's the best for me. But I guess that's just me.

Most of the majors at U of I are good. Most of the liberal arts program are ranked within top 20.

Illinois has an extremely good Classics program, with a slightly heavier focus on Latin than Greek.

Only at the graduate level - no doubt the rankings are lower for undergraduate because this is a large state school. All those excellent LACs and LAC-like universities that don't appear in graduate rankings would be in the running in undergraduate rankings, pushing Illinois down quite a bit.

Go here if in-state tuition is important or if you're attached to the university for some reason but there are other schools that have Illinois' attributes but stronger liberal arts programs without being significantly harder to get into (like Michigan or other top 10 publics).

I really don't care about the rankings. As long as my programs are solid and the professors are willing to have the one on one interactions then I'm sold. I'm worried if I'm looking at the wrong school for a liberal arts education. Would a person like me, a right sided brain guy, be a bad fit? In-state tuition is not a problem for me and I can't afford out-of-state tuition, so I'm stuck in Illinois. Also, my older sibling went here, so yea, I'm kinda emotionally attached to the school. I looked at Illinois Wesleyan and and that seems to be the runner up (really good merit aid).

If you are looking to go to a school with strong sports program/pride go to UIUC. If you are looking for a strong LAC program with one-on-one instruction go to Illinois Wesleyan. Student profile is about the same and some of the Illinois Wesleyan students road trip to UIUC for games. I know there is aan annual bus trip to a UIUC football game each year. To me, it is a choice of large versus small. There are Pros and Cons to each.
