I am currently a sophomore and I go to a large public school out-of-state (I am a CA resident). I am thinking about transferring to the University of Oregon in the spring because it seems to have the kind of setting I prefer and is smaller. (I would go in-state but the CA budget problems scare me and most of the schools are commuters, plus i get financial aid out-of-state). I regret not going there in the first place so now I'm wondering if I can still 'have a second chance' at a school that I wish I had gone to. My question is to anyone that has transferred, do you feel like the school you transferred to is now 'your school'? In other words, do you look back and feel like you had a complete experience at your newer school and consider yourself a 'true alumni' of that school? I just don't want to get a degree from a school that I don't truly consider as my alma mater, if that makes any sense.

I think you ask a good question and I hope you will get several responses. I transferred back in the dark ages and definitely feel that my transfer school is “my school.” I do know of others for whom that is not the case. So a lot depends on you, I think.

I also want to comment on your concern about California’s budget problems. Certainly a real situation. However, I am not sure there is any state for which that is not an issue.

True, but where I would go would be a CSU and i hear they don’t get great funding as it is, granted its one of the better ones (sdsu).
