A lot of people say this, but how many actually do? So many people I know who said this either are regretting it or working crappy minimum wage jobs working crazy hours just to make little money. I know you can get a good job without college, but it requires luck, skill and talent. What are some jobs people can get without college? I'm not counting learning a trade, going to vocational school, etc. since it requires education and qualification unlike lets say being a cashier.

You can’t get a good job without a college education unless you have rich family and friends with plenty of connections or you’re brilliantly talented in a field or are an amazing entrepreneur. In this day, even bachelor degrees don’t hold much value.

^depends on what your bachelors is in, and from where, and where you get your foot in the door

you also forgot getting lucky for things that can get you a good job with no high school degree

Well if you’re really smart you can make money doing a lot of stuff. You could start a business, or deal drugs in wealthy areas, or invent something amazing, or become a famous writer.

hahahaha really??! I wanna know how…explain this!

Carpenters, electricians & plumbers make good money, but that’s probably not ur definition of a ‘good’ job. If you’re a gifted entrepreneur or have solid connections then I guess you could…

Retail sales can be good. You’re not going to get rich off of it, but you’ll make a living.

Having absolutely no education (college, vocational training, an apprenticeship, etc.) will not help you get a good job. One of my uncles is a carpenter and my aunt is a high-end hair dresser, and they are both extremely good at what they do and make a great living. My uncle made a little more than my father when he was working as a chemist with two college degrees.

Networking and knowing a skill that everyone needs, like plumbing or electrical work, can help you make very good money for someone without a college degree.

Of course, you could always try to become a reality star…

My dad makes six figures without a college degree. I think that counts as a good job.

What does he do? And how did he get there?

Drug dealers in wealthy areas do very well for themselves. They also don’t have to pay taxes, though getting caught is always a pretty big danger.

However, drug dealers that do drugs don’t make a lot of money…usually they just get a bunch of stuff for cheaper and sell it at a tiny profit margin to their friends.

If I weren’t going to college, I would be traveling around, doing odd jobs for people around the world in exchange for food/lodging. You can do pretty well for yourself if you like to live simply and are ok with sleeping on the street in a foreign city every now and again.

Short answer is that yes you can get a good job without a college degree. However without it you do have some limitations on what you can and cannot do (for instance you cant be a doctor without an advanced degree). The big advantage to a degree in most fields is that you end up starting out in higher up in a company then you would without one. One example would be working at a bank. A starting position with a degree would likely be somewhere closer to management while without one (and with no experience) your going to be doing low level teller work for many years. The other issue is that it may be MUCH harder to transfer to a different job later in life (with similar pay).

In reality if your not getting a degree you WILL have to work harder to push yourself up the income brackets. So getting a degree is usually the best course of action. However you should consider what you are going into carefully. Getting a useless degree could be worse then no degree at all (suddenly in debt with no real income advantage).

Get in at a retail store. Work your butt off and get promoted. My store manager does not have a college degree and owns two BMWs he likes to show off. Assistant store managers make 50K+ a year, and most of them work their way up into that position in 2-5 years. Our last HR lead was only with the company less than a year and moved up to the Operations manager position. Retail has high turnover, which means lots of opportunities to move up - if you’re good. But let me tell you, it doesn’t take brains to move up…many of my coworkers are proof of that.

Entrepreneur. DO NOT BECOME A STARTUP AND HOPE YOUR COMPANY WILL “MAKE IT BIG.” Get a damn business and make it grow.

Read Rich Dad Poor Dad. This is by far the most important advice on this thread.

All you have to do to become rich is acquire assets and avoid liabilities. Everyone can do it. 95% of people are weak willed and disgusting. 5% succeed.

^thank you creepy freshman

^ Thank you for your condescending tone. May I inquire what your SAT score or college is? I would like further insight to why you believe you are justified with your judgements.

… you want to know my SAT score or college? Why? So if yours are/were better you can make some snide remark?

It doesn’t change the fact you are a creepy freshman.

Hey man, don’t hate the player, hate the game.
