good laptop vs. great desktop

<p>I will soon be going to college and I plan to live in an apartment off-campus. </p>

<p>I've been looking into computers and my budget is around $1,000. I also need an Apple computer. So I've found the MacBook which is a little over 1,000 and meets the requirements of what I'd need. However, there is also the iMac for students at $900, and this computer is much better than the laptop and would help me out much more with the kind of work I do on the computer (video editing, image editing, visual effects).</p>

<p>Is the portability of the laptop worth the velocity and extras that the desktop would give me? Would I use the computer in class, or just to work on certain projects at home?</p>

<p>Considering the work you will be doing "video editing, image editing, visual effects" I take it your going to an art school? or have a artsy type major? If thats the case computers should be available to use at college so i dont see why you would need the portability.</p>
