GOOD midyear report

Contrary to all the other posters on CC, my midyear report is looking pretty darn good. It is way above my cumulative GPA which is not bad at all, but is a little below the average for Scripps. I got all As and a B (in an AP class). My course load wasn't light either (I'm taking AP Bio, AP Lit, and AP Gov <--the class I have a B in). I posted before, saying that my grades haven't been fantastic throughout high school, but I was wondering if Scripps will see my midyear report and disregard that at least a little? Sorry, I applied ED II, and I'll probably be very on edge for the next 2 weeks.

They may take it in to to consideration. If it’s something you’d really like to emphasize, you might consider sending an email to the AO who covers your region (you can find this on the Scripps Admission site). It never hurts to take a little pride in your work!

As for GPAs, don’t stress too much about how yours stacks up to the Scripps average. EVERY high school (no joke, it’s ridiculous) calculates GPAs a little differently, so the work-study students in admission are tasked with re-calculating student GPAs so they are all weighted on the same scale and include/exclude the same classes and are consistent across the board. In my experience as an office grunt, this usually has a positive impact on GPAs, particularly if your school doesn’t already weight AP classes on a 5-point scale.

Thanks for your response, Eternal Icicle. Yeah, my school weights APs on 5 point scale already. the thing is I messed up my 9th grade year. So on my transcript, my 9-12 cumulative GPA isn’t quite “Scripps-range” but my 10-12 is right in the ball park.

tamtastic:

I am in the same situation as you. I applied ED II, but am also concerned about my midyear grades, which are the same as yours. My B, however, is in Calc BC. Also, my freshman grades are weak like yours, but since then, they’ve been strong. I just really hope that Scripps can look past them :/. Do you have any idea when exactly we should hear?

Yeah, I really hope so too, College819. But last year’s threads suggest that people started hearing around February 11th. The official date is February 15th, but they’ve been known to be early.

I emailed about notification! They said that mail and email will be sent February 15th. But I hope it comes earlier I really hope I can get in

I hope we hear early too. I guess I’ve been assuming we’re going to hear early actually, just because last year did. Oh well. Feb. 15th isn’t too far away I suppose. What state are you guys applying from?

I’m in Southern California! :p

I’m from Florida
does anyone get annoyed when people are like what’s Scripps?!?
Or like automatically assume your weird for wanting to go to an all girls school?
my friends took a long time to understand how amazing Scripps is lol

Yeah, I get that all the time. -_-

I’m from Kansas…so it’d be a big change for me :)

Yes! All the time. I’ve met about two people who actually have heard of it. And most are concerned about the all girls thing. Though honestly, that is one of my very few reservations about Scripps.

CRAP, I’m so scared. It feels as if every cell in my body is about to explode and I have to remind myself to breathe.

Me too! It feels like ahhzz when I emailed the admission office they said February 15th to release notification but when I called they said possibly earlier them feburary 15th now d m
Mmy head can’t stop thinking about it!!! I try to keep busy with homework you should try it helps :)

I really hope we hear before the weekend, but I doubt we will. I’m really nervous but at the same time it feels unreal that were all going to know in a few days.

Do you guys know how the ED 2 acceptance rate compares to ED 1? I know ED 1 was 55% but I just hope ED 2 isn’t a lot less.

Was 55% the most recent ED1 acceptance rate? I know that for past years, they count the acceptance rates for ED1 and 2 together, don’t they?

Yeah, it was ED 1 for 2011 (The Choice, New York Times). College Board said overall ED rate was 55% as well, which I believe was for 2010. Whatever, it’s around that. They’ve probably already made most of their decisions already, so I should probably stop worrying about that detail :P.

So I made some calculations… yeah, I’m pretty obsessive.

“Number of early decision applications received: 123
Number admitted under early decision plan: 70” -CollegeBoard

According to The Choice, New York Times, there were 99 ED1 applications, and 54 were accepted. This means that there are around 16 spots left, and around 24 applicants in the ED2 pool, a 66% acceptance rate ESTIMATED.

I don’t know… this makes me feel a little better, just thought I’d share :)

Haha, thank you for sharing my obsessiveness :). That is good to hear. I bet ED applicants went up this year (as in more than 24 for ED 2, which is unfortunate), but I still don’t think the ED 2 rate will go down noticeably. Hopefully.

As for last night, first I had a very realistic nightmare where I was rejected. Then, I woke up panicked and when I fell back asleep I dreamt I was accepted. Soo…as of this morning, I’m feeling a bit panicked. I wonder if we could hear as early as today :/

Last year they heard on the 11th (which was today) so maybe we will get lucky! I’m scared to call in fear of admission office saying it comes today ahzxxz I’d go crazy with nerves rofl

Fingers crossed! For better or worse, I want to hear today rather than Monday or Tuesday. Today, if it’s good news, we could all celebrate because it’s Friday. If it’s bad news, then we have the weekend to recover. Monday or Tuesday, less celebrating and less time to wallow. And yet…the 10th does feel pretty early to hear :/.
