Interested in majoring in music ed with a vocal/choral focus. It is important to me to have a really good choir.
looking at ithaca, udel, hartt,
anyone have thoughts on towson, maryland and shenandoah, gettysburg?
I would keep Ithaca College high on that list.
Westminster/Rider and Temple might be worth a look too ( if they are considered in mid- Atlantic).
I heard great things act temple but i do not want to be in Philadelphia
Westminster is great but i’m worried about the sale
cellocompmom - ithaca is high on my list just worried about its cost
not applying to syracuse or BU for that reason
Setnor offers generous scholarships - might inquire whether music ed kids are competitive for them as well.
@musicchoir --curious why not Philadelphia?
Oh! I don’t remember - did anyone mention U Maryland, or is that considered south?
D considered Md for her BM, but thought there were too many “math and science requirements” for someone wanting a VP degree, but very much liked the faculty. They have great sounding choirs!
thx, i will check them out
songbirdmama thx for info on uo f maryland,
i will check setnor as well
where did your daughter end up going?
Setnor definitely offers merit aid to music ed students. And is quite generous. Good luck!
@musicchoir I thought I posted that reply. Sorry: She is at Bienen/Northwestern. Junior in VP, getting prepared to apply to grad school in the fall. I also sent you a PM.
@akapiratequeen i will take a look a syracuse thanks!
Did you visit all he schools you applied to?
person associated with Westminster here — the drama of the sale is being MASSIVELY overblown by the media, the alumni association, and the AAUP and it is DEFINITELY still worth at least applying.
That being said, look at Rutgers if you’re a tenor or bass (most of the energy of their choir program is focused on the phenomenal Rutgers Mens’ Glee Club, not so much on any mixed ensembles) and Montclair State for any voice part (Heather Buchanan is incredible!!)
