Why is it that this school advertises so much? They've ALREADY sent out e-mails saying that the apps for the next year's admits are available online, and they send lots of mail. I'm sure others notice this (nothing against the school).

they want to boost the # of applicants to lower their acceptance rate to ivy league level.

Is WashU good?? Is it that easy to get in??? i mean i got accepted but rejected by UCLA, why's that?

WashU is very well reputed. But it's one of the most difficult colleges to get into, it's selectivity and admitted class stats are near ivy.

WUStL apparently relies heavily on interest in their admissions decisions. It's said the admittance percentage for this year is around 6. They are reputed to want to decrease their admitted % (thus advertising their school more so they are noticed by more high school students and GC's) and increase their yield % (interest is a high factor).

I once asked washU to send me their course catalog for undergraduate studies.....a month later i got a THICK (abt 300 pgs) book from WashU it was their course catalog...........they've made their statement......they've got lotsa choices in subjects.

BTW...WUStL is indeed a very reputed school and is probably no less than any Ivy...

The only problem with WashU is that is far from the East Coast...;)

WUSTL is ranked by USNWR at #11. This is ahead of NU, Cornell, JHU, Brown, UChicago and Rice. It is certainly one of the top colleges in the country, but the marketing department has apparently gone a little nuts and it makes the college look needy.

Regarding an earlier post, UCLA would be very hard for out-of-state students.

well it got 22,000 applicants this year so i doubt its too needy anymore

yeah they only accepted about 1,350 students this year out of the 22,000 applied.

and in the acceptance package, it says it cost $51k! most expensive i've ever seen...

the acceptance rate is a measly 6.13%..:(

yeah i know, i applied for aids but didnt get any, maybe i'll just not go there...

the acceptance rate should be more like 20%, 1350 is how many spots are available in the class; they usually accept around 4400 or something. Wash U would love it if their rate was 6%, they're slaves to us news.

hmm yeah. makes sense.

The acceptance number is closer to the number of spots avaliable (around 25% more), making possible for the waitlisted to be accepted (last year 24). The January program also takes 40 students.

assuming that the yield rate is 30% (which i guess is reasonable), their acceptance rate is around 20%

Also, I'm pretty sure WashU gives a big boost to locals (St. Louis area), for the rate of acceptance at my high school (in West StL County) is much higher than you could expect from any average school anywhere else.

Probably so. I guess an insane marketing department would explain their letters.
