Are my chances for admission good or bad? Stats:

transfer student, recieved my AA degree this spring. going into music ed.
have a 3.29 gpa
EC's: Ice skating
various volunteer stuff related to music or education
have had music and tutoring jobs within my time at a comm college.
out of state.
will be taking a semester off, planning on applying for spring into music ed.

So how does this look for admission. I plan on doing volunteer stuff durring my time off, and working on getting better at my instrument so I could do a good audition.

Thanks.

The thing you need to do is ace the audition, so I would practice a LOT. I know someone who did not pass the audition for music ed, who did pass at TCNJ and West Chester. And this was after having a private lesson with one of the professors who said he had a good chance.

Thanks. That's good motivation for me to practice. I know how dificult auditions are, and even if you are good there are limited spots so not everyone that is good can get in. What instrument did they play? Playing popular instruments like sax, trumpet, piano, flute, or violin can be fun, but it can also be a drawback when auditioning... sometimes ya wish you picked bassoon or harp :-)

The student auditioned on the trumpet.

Good luck in your practicing. I would recommend going in to the music department office, get some advice, try to meet with a professor to see what your strengths and weaknesses are, and set up some goals for the next few months.

I just heard of someone from my son's high school who is not at the top of her class, but who got a good scholarship from UD as a multi-talented musician.

I have emailed the school and music dept and asked some questions... If I could I would deffinately go there to try to meet with a teacher, because I know that is a good option, but it is hard for me to go to Delaware, sense I'm on the west coast. I am awating a response from one of the teachers over there about applying to the music program.

Trumpet is a hard instrument, because alot of people play it. I play sax, so I get to join in on the fun of playing a overcrowded instrument.

Its good to hear about the scholarship, because that would deffinately help if I was able to get in and get a scholarship.
