Good or risky essay topic?

What work of art, music, science, mathematics, or literature has surprised, unsettled, or challenged you, and in what way?

I'm planning on writing about binaural beats and how they scared the crap out of me when I first used them because I nearly slipped into a dream/trance state without knowing it. For those who don't know, binaural beats are "songs" that can alter the frequency of your brainwaves, therefore having an effect on your mood or even inducing sleep/trance. The problem is, I'm kind of afraid that adcoms might take it in the wrong way and think that I'm crazy. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but do you think that this is a good essay topic or is it too risky because it might make me seem too unusual/crazy?

Aren’t the best essays the risky ones? If you do a good job with this essay, it will be memorable to an admissions rep because, to be honest, I had heard of binuarals before, but I didn’t know exactly what they are.

You may have to do a bit of explanation of what binaurals are in your essay, but if you can put a positive spin on this topic, it seems like a winner to me.

I agree with IAmMars - if you can write a really great essay about it then you should go for it. But if I were you I would try and highlight not only what they are, but why you use them and why it’s a good thing… Just keep it positive and it would certainly be unique. And memorable too. :)
