I was wondering if there are some good organizations to join here.I am not a big party/alcohol guy,but rather into having a good social time with down to earth people.

I heard there are engineering fraternities out there..are there any at Tech?

I am international btw,so no point for me in joining a Frat since I hate them either way.

So you are in Lubbock…congratulations! Regarding “some good organizations” to join, as you are aware there are roughly 400 student organizations at Tech so now it’s exploring which ones will be interesting to you with people you enjoy being with. A couple suggestions - go to the Student Union and visit Student Organzation offices there. If no one is available, then leave your e-mail address and cell phone saying you are interested in finding out more. Then attend the next meeting of target organizations. Ask your Engineering major’s counselor if he/she has any interesting organizations. Definitely go over to the Multi-Cultural Center (across highway from the Med School with all the flags) and talk to people there about possible organization recommendations. There’s a great coffee shop a few blocks south of campus that lots of students hang out. You can just ask around there while sipping some coffee for organizations. It’s up to you to get out and explore. You’ll find a really good niche or two if you keep searching and trying them out. Once you have found one or more organizations, volunteer and get active right away and your co-members will get to know you (and you them) very quickly. Good luck!
