Join an engineering frat?

I'm really interested in joining one (not greek/social fraternities) at the university I'll be transferring to. However, will it be awkward since I'm in my late 20's?

I honestly thought the idea of joining an engineering frat for the networking possibilities and communicating with like-minded individuals were a huge plus.

Would joining one be a good idea or a bad idea?

BTW, there are 60 active chapters of the fraternity nationwide.

Go for it
It’ll give you an opportunity to make friends in your major, and the networking opportunities should be invaluable

Thanks for the input

My son is a member of Thets Tau at CU Boulder. He joined his freshman year and just finished his junior year in engineering. He has enjoyed the professional engineering fraternity and in fact most of his close friends are from the fraternity. Plus it is coed!

Thanks for sharing that info Rousse54, Theta Tau was what I wanted to join. Sounds good that your son enjoyed his time in the frat.

jmin00: Also, my son has attended numerous regional Theta Tau events in other states and met other engineering students from other universities. He has had road trips on a long weekend with his fraternity brothers to Arizona, Texas, etc.

Wow, that sounds awesome. I love meeting new people from everywhere. Ill try to join and hope I receive a bid. Thanks for sharing Rousse54

Your most welcome! What school will you be attending and what kind of engineering are you majoring in? Good luck!

,

THanks Rousse. I’ll be attending ASU and majoring in computer science.
