You get more sleep the next night.

It could be sleep apnea as well. Getting tired during the day means you’re not sleeping enough. Sleep apnea wakes you up multiple times at night, much like an alarm clock.

@teenspirit: You are incorrect. I don’t feel like backing myself up on this one.

Sungod lounge is a nice place with the couches and all.

If you can get codes to certain buildings, go to the most quiet lounges with nice couches and just knock the f*** out.

If you mean that what I said about sleep apnea is incorrect, what it does is much more complex. I only summed it up. I’m guessing you don’t understand sleep apnea.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s annoying when someone is passed out across an entire couch?

Yeah, it’s a d*** move.

That’s really weird, I heard that you don’t get any real rest unless you go into heavy REM sleep, which occurs about 2-3 hours after you lose consciousness.

That’s what sleep apnea messes with. You stop breathing (or your breathing shallows), which causes an arousal. Unless the OP is purposely depriving himself of sleep, something is causing arousals. Only a sleep study can find out the cause.

TeenSpirit I don’t want to argue with you about whether or not any symptoms described involve sleep apnea but I will say that over 90% of us college students probably have some sort of sleeping disorder and quite frankly, the bulk of us don’t really give a f*** at the moment. There are more important things to worry about, such as finding a nice place to nap in between class periods. I look over and see a fellow classmate sleeping in the lounge and I think, “Rest well, brother. Rest well”.

^If by sleep disorder you meaning staying up all night drinking or playing Starcraft depending on who we’re dealing with, then yeah I agree with you. If you get tired during the day, you need to sleep more at night, it’s not goddamn rocket science. And if you don’t care and want to stay up late anyway, go right ahead, you’re an adult and can do as you please. Personally, I think getting a good night sleep so you you’re actually awake in class and can retain some of the **** you learn is more important that finding a spot in the library to sleep. But hey, that’s just me.

There’s a difference between a sleep disorder and unhealthy sleep. Too much or too little sleep can kill you, and most people don’t realize that.

OP:
If you’re getting healthy amount of sleep AND need to nap, then you might have a sleep disorder. If not, just sleep more.

KingsElite:
You know nothing about sleep. Don’t make it like you do.
It’s not rocket science, it’s sleep medicine. Also, it’s not rocket science, it’s aerospace engineering. You sound like an idiot.

^I sound like an idiot? That’s laughable. First off, I’m probably one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. It takes a lot to get me mildly frustrated at anything and I really hope you were being sarcastic in that post. If you weren’t though, I guess you’re too stupid to realize I was trying to defend you, so I guess that’s the last time I’ll be doing that. “It’s not rocket science” is a saying but you were too stupid to realize that as well. And if you don’t think that 99%+ of college students need a nap during the day because they purposely stay up late, then you have you head shoved way up your ass and shouldn’t even start with “You know nothing about sleep”. I understand the importance of sleep or I wouldn’t have been arguing for it this whole time. I also know what sleep disorders are and I wasn’t saying they didn’t exist or anything like that. Good job making yourself not only look like an idiot but a giant prick as well.

@TeenSpirit - Humans CAN go 18-hour days without napping, but I doubt that’s what we’re preconditioned to do. If you look at other mammal species, they spend a lot of time dozing off. Many cultures still have an afternoon siesta programmed into their routines. I wouldn’t call it a disorder if it’s the accepted norm.

@$KingsElite$ - agreed with the last point. And you’re still too nice! Move to NYC for a few years and get that out of your system ;)

^Na. I’m really just not a confrontational person. It’s not like I couldn’t start **** if I wanted to, but I choose not to act like a child so I deal with things appropriately. I also think sports helped me get stuff out of my system. But I have no problem writing some angry posts on the internet from time to time. Especially when people are being particularly stupid.

THIS THREAD IS NOW 'BOUT ROCKET SCIENCE

Didn’t know a topic about sleep would cause serious drama.

We sittin here, I supposed to be gettin ready for college and we in here talkin about sleep disorders.

To hijack the thread again:

Oyama - how was your lesser-coast visit? do we get a gallery of food pics soon??

Who said we are staying up late cuz we feel like it??

What about the lot of us that actually have our days end at 10PM and start at 9 AM?? It takes quite a while to do hw, stuff for orgs, exercise, etc. so some of us aren’t the ones with the magical schedules that permit us to get enough sleep. If it just so happens we have an hour or two gap inbetween classes, people that are staying up for productive things may need that time to nap so they can stay awake and learn the “****” in their lectures. And no, we aren’t robots, we need to rest our brains throughout the day somehow as well.

^All the people I’ve dealt with at UCSD so far who nap during the day are the ones who choose to stay up late and who blew off getting any work done during the day. If you’re not one of those people, then ok, you have a perfectly legitimate reason to nap and can disregard what I said. But I find it ridiculous when my roommate slept through a math quiz because he decided to stay up drinking all night and when one of my suitemates would sleep through our chem class because he would stay up all night playing Smash Bros or Starcraft. I know they “don’t really give a f*** at the moment” but I think it’s stupid.
