Touring the school with D week after next ... recommendations for good place with an "Emory collegiate" or fun Atlanta vibe to go to dinner on a Sunday night?

(Even better if a reasonable walk from the W Hotel on 14th Street)

Is that in midtown (thus near Tech)? If so, you’ll see plenty of options. We don’t need to tell you. I’m trying to think if the Flying Biscuit is down there. If so, that’s an awesome place to go. You can go to the places at Tech square. There are just 1 million options between midtown/downtown Atlanta. Also, beware if you visit in August, it’s hot as hell, especially in downtown/midtown (Last summer, I remember walking from Emory midtown hospital to Colony Square in jeans and a bookbag on to fill out paperwork for a job. It was much hotter than campus. Make sure you where something comfortable). I’ll check a Google Earth map and see if you have anything to worry about.

Yes, that is indeed the area I was thinking of. It’s of course closer to Piedmont than Tech. But trust me, there will be a huge array of options. I don’t know what type of food you like. Also, Since that is the Georgia Tech area, you won’t find an Emory Collegiate feel anywhere there. You have to go to say, Virginia Highlands, which isn’t too far, but not walkable, to find areas like that (and even they will be a mix of Tech and Emory). Most of the things in the area will have the “Atlanta vibe.” Anyway, you won’t have trouble finding anything w/in walking distance that satisfies you. Admittedly, many things/restaurants that give off any type of vibe lie on 10th street, so you may want to stroll over to it.

Oh, may I add that since it’s summer, you may not get any “real feel” for the campus as I’m thinking summer classes will have ended when you get there. Also, make sure to walk around campus after the guided tour. The tour is somewhat inadequate IMHO. The core campus is really perhaps only 1/3-1/2 of all of it (I’m thinking, since you’re visiting Vandy, that their core is much larger/more tight, and that seeing that part is seeing the whole campus. When I say core, I mean, Commons, Peabody, and the main portion where most UG classes are held. Emory essentially has quad+periphery and then “everything else”, some separated by a bridge/road and some placed in a forest. Basically, it’s sprawly as a whole). Take time to go to Lullwater Park for example or to walk around Bakerwoods (behind library, basically I’m saying walk Fishburn). The rest of Emory is essentially forest w/some buildings located w/in it like Yerkes, the alumni house, lulwater house, and Clairmont campus which is on the other side of the forest and is really nice (thus, I would either walk through Lullwater to get to it or ride a cliff shuttle labelled “C”). I find it necessary to explain this as Emory is nowhere near as impressive as it is when you see at least 3/4 of it and the tours don’t impress alone. Also, take time to walk in facilities if open (10th floor balcony of library comes to mind as a must see. Also, go to Carlos museum if open. Maybe eat there?). We’re the only top 20 ineffective at marketing/showcasing the school so I just did it myself lol.

Sunday night in the summer will probably not feel too “Emory collegiate” around Emory since few students are around. IF that is your bent, you should try to eat in Emory Village, which is under some construction, BTW. Everybody’s Pizza or Doc Chey’s Noodles would be the best bets there.

If you are going to be in Midtown, Veni Vidi Vici has a Sunday night special ([Veni Vidi Vici | Buckhead Life Restaurant Group](http://www.buckheadrestaurants.com/veni-vidi-vici)). Owned by a group that specializes in restaurants in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, Veni, Vidi, Vici is in Midtown, an exception for the location of their group of eateries.
For just $25 per guest, you can enjoy an endless amount of authentic Italian pasta.

Plenty of other Midtown restaurants including the one in the W Hotel. But you can walk to Veni Vidi Vici from there.

“Just 25 dollars”. Love it lol. But then again, since they are staying in the W, that probably would be reasonable. Yeah, I was going to Recommend Everybody’s, but the OP suggested that they would be back at the hotel by night in which case there are plenty of things (if they are board, they could even walk to Tech square, but they’d have to be quite bored to do that at night and Tech square does not=the Piedmont Park area in variety). Also, the village looks a lot better than it did in Spring. A lot of the construction is done (roundabout is working. They just need to do landscaping) and it is far more walkable than before. It’ll probably be even more polished when OP arrives.
