Good "POP CULTURE" examples for SAT ESSAYS. (movies, current events..)

^Agree w/ you, unoriginal. A well-written essay is what you need most of all.

I got a 12 with only two examples. One literary and one historical.

I agree that the most important thing is that the essay has to be well written.
I used a Pop culture example when i was writing my essay and i scored a 12.
I would never write about history because it bores me.
Literature is always a good choice. I have friends that write about Literature and end up getting lower scores. Perhaps this is because you have to be really fluent and accurate when writing about that topic. (since the graders know oh so much about it.)
I wouldn't suggest writing about Pokemon or Kung Fu panda , you would lose "credit" because those aren't critically acclaimed movies etc. plus those topics make you sound less "smart" no matter how well the essay is written.
Remember humor doesn't work with these robots.

I wrote my essay last summer. I had to write about how fame corrupted people who seek it ...something along those lines.
I wrote about Marilyn Monroe and how she had to live up to her fame , it turned out great.

How about using mark twain or charles dickens?

Twain and Dickens are extremely well known authors, so using famous works of literature is a good idea. Still, you have to have good examples from your works of literature!

my first essay i used a literary example- 8
second essay i used another literary example- 8
third time taking the SAT my example was the Bail Out plan bill to show how through compromise you can solve problems- 10 :D

I heard for movies..the Matrix works for everything. Same thing for the Bible too. Never personally used it though o_o

Create your own.

Great Gatsby is great for almost any prompt.

I try to avoid the generics. Not because I have to, but because I like my essays to be somewhat interesting for the reader...

^ you do know they skim through it in like 10-20 seconds right?
