Good reason NOT to apply to Harvard

Front page of the Harvard site - no mention of extending the deadline of EA/ED due to Sandy.. whereas the first thing mentioned on Notre Dame page is: "Admission Alert: due to the unanticipated effects of Hurricane Sandy, the Undergraduate Admissions Early Action deadline will be extended to midnight on Thursday, November 8th for students impacted by the storm. (etc.)".

guess this wasn't important enough for Harvard..

Sorry moonchild, you are misinformed: [Harvard College Admissions § Announcements](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/announcements/sandy.html)

“With the approach of Hurricane Sandy here on the East Coast of the United States, we want you to be aware of our longstanding flexibility on Early Action and Regular Action deadlines for submitting applications and supporting materials from teachers and guidance counselors. If there is a good reason for not being able to meet a deadline (whether it be a natural disaster such as Hurricane Sandy or a personal challenge), we are happy to accept late applications and support materials. All you and your recommenders need to do is explain the reason in a brief note to fileroom@fas.harvard.edu.”

Tbh, even if they didn’t make that provision, I would still apply. Harvard is an institute of learning, and as such, is excellent.

“Good reason NOT to apply to Harvard”

1) Very poor at mining out important information from websites.

gibby - Thanks for locating this information. I’m sure it could be found somehwere, given enough digging around (or “mining”, as x has so eloquently pointed out).

My point, however, was that the hurricane wasn’t considered important enough to warrant a mention on the HOMEPAGE, [Harvard University](http://www.harvard.edu/).

Nevertheless, it strikes me as a rather odd selection criterion.

Moonchild: You obviously have your own reasons for bashing Harvard.

I can only assume you do not live in an area that Hurricane Sandy visited, or you just don’t read the local papers that have gone out of their way to alert students about all colleges extending the early deadlines. See: [Colleges Extend Early Admission Deadlines - NYTimes.com](<a href=“Colleges Extend Early Admission Deadlines - The New York Times”>Colleges Extend Early Admission Deadlines - The New York Times)

^^ Oh and BTW, you didn’t have to search or “mine” very hard to find the notice – it’s right there on the Harvard Admissions Home Page – left hand side, under ANNOUNCEMENTS: [Harvard College Admissions Homepage](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/index.html)

As I said before: You obviously have your own reasons for bashing Harvard.

As someone applying to Harvard SCEA, I thought I should share this email I received last Saturday:

"To: Students applying to Harvard under our Early Action program - and those intending to do so (based on your current Common or Universal application profile).

From: The Harvard Admissions Staff

We wanted you to be aware of the message we posted Saturday October 27th, 2012 on our website. We hope this information is helpful to you and those writing recommendations for you.

Thank you."

So several days before moonchik even thought to post this, Harvard already address this concern.
