Good Recs

I still have a year to go before "the real" admissions process begins for me (let's hope I do AMAZING junior year)! A lot of my friends though are starting to get antsy about who they will ask for recommendations and how exactly they will go about getting one. Using some search engines, I've found a helpful hints to the process.

1) ask a teacher that taught a class you worked HARD in (a teacher will usually write a better rec for a hard-working student with a B/B+ looks better than a mute student with an A)
2) start EARLY!!! Give them LOTS of time! (ED: start late summer if able or first week of school) (RD: oct should be fine)
3) create a "brag sheet" (some schools make these for their students...I don't think mine does! I'll post my idea of a "BRAG SHEET" and please, post if have any suggestions for it)
4) label everything and make it as easy as possible
5) write a note to the teacher telling them all about due dates, etc.
6) make sure you check in on them!
7) write thank you notes! a gift would be nice as well (homemade cookies anyone?)

ANY OTHER IDEAS???? I'd also like to know if any of you have been able to "get involved" with the rec aka seeing what the teacher has written before its mailed and suggesting things, etc?

ANOTHER QUESTION BEFORE THE BRAG SHEET: how exactly would you go about asking a teacher? do you think the whole "would you be willing and able to give me a glowing reccomendation?" Any suggestions???

Brag sheet would include:
grades/achievements in class
extracurricular achievements
an expierence the teacher was aware of that might show leadership/working skills/ passion/ etc.
passion for the subject
future plans
common interests (maybe for english, a book you both read (in class or not) that you both enjoyed. maybe a book they rec'd to you)
and of course...A BIG THANK YOU!
