Good references for job application?

I’m a sophomore and I’m applying for a job at a local restaurant as a hostess. They ask for three references. I’m thinking of asking my newspaper adviser, my 8th grade English teacher (he really liked me, we keep in touch and I’ve volunteered to help him relatively recently), my Beta Club adviser and maybe the newspaper’s editor in chief.

Is it bad to cite someone as a reference if they’re still a student? I feel the EIC knows me a lot better than the Beta Club adviser, and she has an important job, but I’m not sure. Should I get rid of one reference or is the more the better? Are these references good in general?

How did you guys go about asking for references?

Thanks for any feedback.

Personally, I would go with references from all adults. Future employers would probably consider them over a kid still in school.
