Hey, I'm asking for a friend of mine who doesn't have a CC account.

She got a 590 on SAT Math in the spring, and overall SAT score was 1990 (700 on both CR and W) . (She took the test without much studying, and regrets that.) She then took the SAT IIs and got a 720 in Math II.

She was wondering if she should retake the SAT to improve her math, despite her good Math II score. Her dream school is UCLA, but she says she's aiming for UC Davis and UCSD. Her CR and W are relatively high, but her math is definitely lower than average. Thanks.

The UC's look at your best cumulative score from a single test date (1990 in your friend's case), so bringing up her math only helps if she can maintain or increase her CR and W. She is already in excellent shape for Davis. UCSD and UCLA are more competitive. The UC's will not even look at anything beyond her top scores, so there is no negative to trying again other than $45 and a wasted Saturday.

UC admission can be very formulaic, so she won't necessarily get credit for being OK at math just because of her 720. Shiomi is right.
