So I am a junior in HighSchool outside of the US, I am taking the SATs this December for the first time and I was wondering what a good SAT score would be for me. In my last practice test I got a 1900 but I know I can do better (in the CR and writing parts...the math part is ok) I want to apply to Cornel, Berkeley, UCLA, Georgia Tech and NYU.
-4.0 GPA
-Planning to take Math and Physics subject tests as well
Any suggestions?!

Here’s a tip: look up the 25th-75th ranges for your top colleges. If you cross their 75th (I didn’t look, but I’m not sure if you would), you should be fine, and if you’re below their 25th, it’ll be pretty tough. If you’re in the middle somewhere, it’s up to the rest of your application.

Thanks! I looked them up and it seems tht Berkeley has the higher 75th percentile
(CR: 600 / 720, Math: 650 / 770, Writing: 620 / 740) My problem is the CR…In the practice tests I usually get 600!

Typically if you cross the 2150 mark, your score is good for any college. But of coarse the better the score, the better your chances. As for critical reading, the best way to tackle it is through learning new words, practicing a lot of sections and reading books.

i got a 2100 with 790 Math…so same problem here.

so i guess im not alone! thanks anyway!

CR really just needs a TON of vocab practice. The princeton review book is excellent for providing plenty of practice and good words to know, which should help you boost your score.

I second the PR word smart book. Although its not reviewed too well by others, I personally like it.
