fall:
Math 1B
CS 61A
Intro to acting
Intro to human nutrition
spring:
EE 16A
CS 61B
seminar/decal(or reading comp if i don’t get a 5 on lit)
Music of the civil rights era\
i got 5’s in Calc BC and AP lang and am waiting on my AP Lit score, so i can skip math 1A and (hopefully) both halves of reading comp.
Also, which classes should I phase 1? I’m very confused about the whole process. I will be at calso june 30th, which apparently is quite late.
Thanks!
5 on calculus BC allows skipping Math 1B as well, but you may want to try the old final exams before deciding whether to skip Math 1B (or 1A). You may have to self-study the introductory differential equations material in Math 1B before taking Math 54 if you skip Math 1B.
Old final exams: https://tbp.berkeley.edu/courses/math/
Have a list of alternative courses to sign up for in case your first choice ones are full.
@ucbalumnus thanks, yeah I’m not entirely sure I remember enough to skip 1B. do you have any advice on choosing phase 1 classes?
Is it okay for incoming freshman planning on PreMed with Anthropology Major to register Math 16A during Phase 2?. Planning to register for Chem 1A, Chem 1AL, and Anthro 2AC during Phase 1. Should I go for Math 16A for Phase 1 and wait on Anthro 2AC for Phase II? Planning to take either Anthro 1 or Psych 2 for fourth class in Phase II. Have plenty of AP credits - AP Calc AB, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP English Literature, AP English Language, AP Spanish Language, AP Macro Economics, AP Government, AP US History, AP World History, AP Human Geo.
You need not be in any rush to take Math 16A, since you already have AP calculus AB.
You may want to start your pre-med courses with Physics 8A and perhaps Statistics 131A, since they are not duplicative of your AP courses, and your AP calculus AB should fulfill their calculus prerequisites. Then, if you later decide not to do pre-med, you will not have wasted any courses repeating what you already know. (However, you probably want to start chemistry no later than this spring.)
Thanks @ucbalumnus. The question is on behalf of my daughter. I should mention My daughter took Calculus AB, Chemiststry and English Literature during my senior year and expecting to do well in the AP tests. It looks like a few medical schools like UCLA and UC Davis do not give credit for AP Math and hence thought of knocking it off along with Chemistry in her first semester since both will be fresh in her mind. She is not big fan of Calculus. She plans to take Statistics in her second semester. Any advice on which courses to register for Phase 1?
For medical school, UCD does not require any math at all: http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mdprogram/admissions/requirements.html
UCLA requires calculus and statistics, no AP credit: http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mdprogram/admissions/requirements.html
If she wants to learn math and statistics which is specifically useful for medicine and biology (and social sciences to some extent), she may want to consider Math 10A and 10B. According to the pre-med advising page from the career center, it will fulfill medical schools’ requirements for both math and statistics (students who take other courses may have to take two math and one statistics).

@misaonoodles123 If you think you need to revisit the BC part of calculus then I would recommend just taking 16B and saving yourself the trouble of the purported difficulty of 1B! If you’re worried about differential equations, however, and would like to learn most of it while doing a course where you’re already somewhat familiar with the material, then perhaps taking 1B would be your choice - otherwise, I would just take Math 54 directly.
In terms of your schedule, it’s solid (may or may not even have a bit of room for another breadth class or a DeCal if you want). In terms of what to phase 1, all of your classes to my knowledge (with the exception of Intro to Acting) are Phase 2 friendly, so I would choose to phase 1 your math class and your nutritional science class (or intro to acting if it’s popular and will easily get full… use berkeleytime to find that out) and get a great discussion time that’s friendly to your schedule. CS 61A typically expands to accommodate everyone on its waitlist and its labs and such are a bit more flexible in terms of scheduling, so I would wait to Phase 2 that.
