I highly recommend Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, one of the best underrated colleges in the country. The school is challenging academically but also relaxed so that students can get the best possible education. First year students are required to take a class called to Core which is a study of Western thought including The Odyssey, Socrates, Plato, Augstine, Marx, Voltaire etc… There are no TA’s which mean that students get full attention from professors. Students have said that the professors are brilliant, interesting and love to spend time with students outside of class. It’s not uncommon to be invited over to a professors house. The administration is also amazing too and try to keep red tape to a minimum. The president gets very involved on campus.

As for the campus life, academics take first priority but everything is within 10 minutes walking distance. There’s always something fun to do and many student organizations. There are also fraternties/sororities and parties if that’s your thing (30% of the student population but it’s by no means overwhelming the campus). Outdoor activities are popular because of the sunny weather (only 70 cloudy/rainy days a year, less than Phoenix), the Outdoor Program is amazing and there are hiking, biking, kayaking and rock climbing trips. It’s impossible to get bored at Whitman.

Students at Whitman are environmentally aware, outdoor lovers, cool nerds, and interested in trying new things and meeting new people. Everyone has a interest or opinion in something.

Whitman- Definitely a great option, I am really regretting not applying, it sounds fantastic

Reed- Really depends on what you want. If you want to work really hard (most of the classes are taught at a graduate school level) then it is the school for you. Provided that you also fit with the student body (which is generally very very liberal, quirky, intellectual and progressive). Reed is a fantastic school for people that like a high stress high workload environment.

Pomona- Very good, well rounded school that is very intellectual.

Claremont McKenna- A great LAC in the Claremont Consortium. Focuses on Social Sciences. Has a more preppy and pre-professional atmosphere then Pomona and Reed.

Could you provide other information, such as any location preferences, financial abilities, size of school, LAC or Uni, among others?
