I really like political science and math, but I am having a hard time figuring out what I want to major in and do with my life. I was thinking that I'd probably end up just going to college and figuring it out there based on which classes that I like better. Because I still do not know which I want to major in, I would like to go to a school that has a good program in both so that I do not have to transfer because the school I am attending does not have a good program for the major that I decide on. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Almost every decent school has a good political science program. There are standouts like the University of Chicago, but you don’t need to go to a school like that to find a great political science programs. LACs are sometimes particularly good in the political science department. On the other hand, I know nothing about math. Since math and political science are pretty standard majors, I would imagine it comes down to the reputation of the professors and the actual major requirements.

I also have intentions on majoring in political science ( may branch off to international relations), and finding universities that are well in this major can be difficult. The majors may be standard but a university undergraduate program in political science can make a great difference in what graduate school you attend, things you learn, opportunities available, and jobs you were well taught for. A few universities I’ve heard that are good in political science ( besides ivy leagues): University of Wisconsin- Madison, University of Minnesota- Twin Cities…both offer internships for undergraduates over the summer in D.C, study abroad programs etc… I guess you need to make sure your undergraduate school for political science has a lot going for their program, and good teaching skills etc… especially if you plan to attend a graduate school/ program.

Speaking for math, I’m not that sure about. Maybe MIT is good in math.

I’ve heard Swarthmore is pretty good for those areas.

Swarthmore does not have a very good math program, but UChicago has a great one.

I would also like to now universities for undergraduate good in political science, I’m trying to find Ruggs rankings… you may also want to look at it.

I have heard that Berkeley and UCLA have great political science program yet I’m not so sure how strong the undergrad program is. I know for fact the UCLA has a renowned math department. Some of the world best mathematicians are professors there like terrence tao.

UC’s also have the UCDC program where you can spend a semester studying and interning in Washington.
