Good sign? or means nothing?

What does it mean when someone from admissions sends an email asking for more information? I applied to Brandeis for spring 2012 transfer. I got an email from someone in admissions asking for another personal statement so they can understand my educational record better. It probably looked weird that I went to a different high school every year because I was a competitive figure skater. Also, they were confused as to why I did very poorly for two semesters in college, Withdrawing from all my classes, but then retaking them and getting A's. This was when my grandfather was dying - I won't go into the story on here.

My first reaction is to get really excited because if they didn't like the rest of my application, would they be asking for more information? I mean, surely, if they didn't think I was a competitive applicant they would just say pass and move on.

Anyone have some insight on this? I'm writing the personal statement tonight and trying not to get my hopes up.

It is a good sign. Schools only ask for more information when they are interested. If you were in the no pile already, they wouldn’t bother.

Good luck, FloridaTransfer. You sounds like you’ve been through a lot but have done your best to compensate & have great explanations.

Thanks! Crossing my fingers!
