When a college reuqests additional info from you is that a good sign?

I'm going through this stupid process again, and I remember last year when I applied to Penn, a few weeks in they sent a request to my adviser asking her for her "thoughts" on me.

Is that a good sign or what?

Not enough info, last year where you a freshman?? If so then that is a good sign ...but if you were a transfer then that is a very bad sign..For them to go that deep as to ask a counselor for a transfer student... i suspect that they have some doubts about your app.

I was a freshman applying as a transfer.

Bad sign? How so?

Definately a good sign; that means they want to get to know more about you because they are unsure whether to accept you or reject you. It is surely better than hearing nothing at all. Which college wants to know more? lol

It was last year and it haunts me to this day.

As I guess a "practice" run, I applied ONLY to wharton.

Well, everything seemed to go well until Penn notified me my school never sent some stuff that I personally went to see that they had (good job current school I will not name but is easy to find if you search my other posts....)

Then I got an email from my adviser saying Upenn contacted her directly and asked for some additional info about me. It was specifically asking for her to write sort of a rec and basically asked her to explain why they should take me.

By the time she notified me through email that she was in the process of sending it... I get the rejection letter.

Well, at least this year she says she will write me a rec from the get go... she's a good adviser, too bad my schools out to get me...and I probably won't even bother applying to pnn since my GPA has done nothing but go down, oh joy! Kids that truly want to attend Penn are again trumped but others with better means fo getting into school, yay! (end self-pity rant).

Hmmm, maybe I'll apply as an econ major....
