Hey everyone I am in the midst of helping my oldest daughter (Sally!) in her decision for college. Tonight while scouring the web we found a great site with a lot of really useful information on Penn State, the website is http://www.psumoms.com .It looks like it was written by students it has helped us so much this evening. Hopefully some of this info can save you some time and searching!

Thanks very much for posting this site! Is it new? I have never seen it before. I really like the section on budgets my son needs to learn about saving and credit. I will definitely be using the tips it provides and the suggestions about how to save while in college are priceless! Great find Sallysmom!

I have high interest in applying to PSU- University Park, though the town may be too small of a college town. Not likely to find many stores such as Target, Best Buy, good mall etc…

Actually, State College (the town surrounding University Park) does have a Target, Best Buy, two WalMarts, a bunch of restaurants, Staples, etc. All are accessible via the bus route if you don’t have a vehicle.

Also, at the mall, Macy’s, Penney’s, Hollister, Gap, et cetera.

There is also a T.J. Maxx by the Walmart off of North Atherton and a Kohl’s about 3 miles from campus.

Also Wegmans!

Hey guys,

Check out the site in the original post, it describes some of the locations your speaking about. Theres the walmart on Atherton street, a Giant on Atherton street. A bunch of convenient stores in town on college/beaver avenue and so on. They should add a section on the bus route you are talking about I’d like to know more about that. My son will be bringing his car but the bus route sounds interesting…

Do advise though…if you like a good mall, Nittany Mall is pretty bad ;).

Dino99, is your son a freshman? If so, I’m not sure if you know that freshmen aren’t allowed to have cars on campus, so you will need to find somewhere to keep it off-campus. Actually, even if he isn’t a freshman, if he’s living on campus, having a car will be more of a pain than it’s worth.

He is living off campus and will have his car to drive home during holidays and other occasions. It makes financial sense because we would have to pay to drive there and back to get him anyways.

yes that is true Dino, how much are you paying for parking?

$275 a month, what a scam… at least the car will be in a covered area and out of the snow and rain.

wow that is a lot. I thought my s was paying a lot at $100 per month. Wasn’t covered, but I bought him a snow shovel for his trunk which I think he used maybe once.

Wow, I found this site too actually and came here to post about it. I was looking for information on LionCash and meal plans and found a lot of good stuff here. Looks like I am late to the party ha ha.

If you haven’t, check it out!
