I've heard a lot about summer programs such as SSP and RSI, but are there any less competitive ones?

This summer as a rising sophomore, I'm doing LDI debate camp for two weeks for policy debate.
Next summer as a rising junior, I don't know what I should do.
I was going to apply to RSI and SSP, but I feel as if I cannot get into the programs...although I am still applying.
I've heard about FloridaYSP but then it was only for people in Florida schools.
I live in Virginia. Any ideas for summer programs that would help enhance a college application?

It depends what you’re interested in, kokome1. I’m not saying you need to decide what your college major is going to be, but it’s always good to have a proven track record in one field. If you let me know your interests I can probably track down some programs for you (I’m working on a book about pre-college summer programs and have a pretty large database of programs).

Oh, and while I don’t have any experience with either Florida school or YSP, it’s important to remember that you can’t always judge the quality of a summer program by the college/university where it’s held. For one thing, certain schools that aren’t considered especially prestigious overall might have individual departments that are very well-regarded and run summer programs/internships (like the science research programs at Stony Brook). And some Ivy League schools run pre-college summer programs that charge big bucks but aren’t the most worthwhile experiences.
