Good Test Scores and Leadership but average GPA... chance me for these schools please?

Not familiar with most schools but I think UCLA is about a match, whereas UPenn is a stretch. Georgie Tech and Duke maybe low reaches in comparison to UPenn

@orlandomagic98 You could try and take it again, but for many of the schools you want to apply to (UMich, MSU, etc.), a 2200 is good. Some schools (like UCLA) might want a higher score, but 2200 itself is really good.

@orlandomagic98 UCB is liberal, yes I think thats true but for someone who has grown up in the Bay Area my entire life, UCB is normal. Like the whole Bay Area is a very liberal and diverse community, most of California for that matter. So yes, I think UCB and California in retrospect and compared to the entire nation, are liberal. But I don’t believe it is extremely liberal, even if I may be slightly biased.

GPA is a bit on the lower side (I can relate!), but I think your ECs show passion and involvement. If you write a stellar essay, I’m sure that you will have a great chance for any of these schools, including your dream school UNC! I would chance you based off each individual school but I don’t know really anything about them so I don’t want to mislead you. Best of luck, and good luck on those essays! I think your strong upward trend in GPA will also help you.

You have a pretty good application, but unfortunately what is holding you back is your GPA. Some people above recommended taking more standardized tests, but I disagree. Your SAT scores are good enough for any of the schools to which you’re applying, but those scores, unfortunately, won’t make up for a low GPA. I’m not saying you’re a definite rejection from any of the schools you listed, especially because you have solid ECs, but some are bigger reaches than others. That said, this is how I chance you…

Michigan State - very good chance
U of South Carolina - very good
U of Georgia - very good
Clemson - very good
UT Austin - good (it’s hard out of state)
Villanova - decent
U of Miami - decent
UCLA - low reach
Georgia Tech - decent
UMich - mid-reach
USC - mid-reach
Notre Dame - low reach
UPenn - HUGE reach
Duke - pretty big reach
UNC-Chapel Hill - mid-reach, esp. because you’re out of state

Hey, fellow new jersey here. Practically in the same boat as you, but 34 ACT and 3.7 3.7 and 4.4 GPA (fr, so and ju years)

You’re going to get into most of these schools.

You might want to even take the SAT again because the higher your test scores with that GPA the better.

Clemson has gotten more competitive over the past year. They look primarily at GPA, class rank and standardized test scores . GPA is a little low for admission . For Calhoun Honors College 71% of Honors freshman had an ACT of 32 or 1400 on SAT, 2/3 s of students had an unweighted GPA of at least 3.7 with at least 17 hrs of AP credit and are ranked in the top 2-3 % of their class. Info from Honors info session at Discover Clemson 2015.

@orlandomagic98 If you want Business/Finance, I am not sure why Georgia Tech is even on your list. The Terry College of Business at UGA is the best business program in the state of Georgia. Keep in mind that acceptance into UGA does not mean acceptance to Terry. You apply separately for that at the end of your sophomore year. Also, merit based aid at state universities in Georgia is not very good at all.

What is wrong with Rutgers?

@uafootball27 wow I can’t believe we have almost the same stats and are both from NJ… What a coincidence!
@CollegeDadofTwo I’m most likely going to live in NJ for the rest of my life once I graduate college so I figure I have 4 years to live in a new environment. This is why all the schools I’m looking at are far from home.

Ehh, your GPA doesn’t seem on par with the averages of most of your desired schools, BUT the increased trend from your 3.3 to 4.4 might show your academic determination to the admission officers. Everything else looks superb!

P.S: Could you chance me too on my thread? Thanks.

@ayyyyyyy can u leave a link? Thanks

I’d say you’re a great candidate at any one of those schools. Your test scores and extracurriculars are above average. Your GPA is fine. I would be surprised if you didn’t get into more than half of those schools. Good luck!

Thank you for posting on my chances thread !

Michigan State: match
U of South Carolina : match
U of Georgia: match
Clemson: match
UT Austin: low /reach- I disagree with what most other people are saying. Their undergrad business program is extremely competitive, more so for those coming out of state. They heavily consider rank, but since your school doesn’t rank I’m assuming it would be a little easier for you to get in.
Villanova- don’t know much about this one, but from what i do know, it’s a match
U of Miami (Fl)- match
UCLA - low reach- I’ve seen some really impressive kids get rejected. I guess it depends on your UC GPA.
Georgia Tech- low reach / high match
UMich - match
USC (Southern Cal) - low reach
Notre Dame- low reach
UPenn- reach, especially if you’re going for business
Duke- reach
UNC Chapel Hill- low reach. I’m not super familiar with their admissions process, but I think with strong recs and essays, you have a good chance.

As many have said, you have good chances at a lot of these schools. Good luck!

I think you have a very good chance to get into just about all of these options except Duke and UPenn, which will be very competitive - but you have a good chance there as well! Make sure the essay is strong! good luck!
