Im a junior and im working on planning my senior year... And im having a hard time deciding on classes, i could use some input.

Im taking ap calcAB currently(i hate it so no way im taking BC

My choices are:
*Ap stats( my school requires math senior year)
*Ap bio( my favorite science course)
*Ap chem( im going pre-med so it could help)
*Ap pysch( it seems interesting but idk if its practical)
*Honors physics( is it nessisary/ look better on aps then ap chem?)
*Ap lang( is an upper level english nessisary for a good college?)

Maybe give me the 3 classes you think are best? And any other pointers are welcome)
Biology/pre med major, something health field.

Take AP LIT over lang if you can, and take AP Chem over hon. physics. Also, do not take bio, and take psych if you have extra bells for APs.

Currently I’m in lit, euro, phys B, psych, macroµ,calcAB, and gov, and I can tell you that Chem was not that bad and that Lit (at least @ my school) is regarded as better.

Without knowing your past coursework and the rest of your options for next year, it’s hard to give you any helpful information. It seems as though you have to take Stats, so that’s a given. I would imagine four years of English is preferred for any college you apply to. Whether you fulfill that with AP Lang or an honors class probably depends on your preference and how strong an English student you are, though AP always looks better than honors. If I were you, I’d take AP Bio. That was my favorite science in HS and one of my favorite classes. Have you taken physics yet? If not, you really ought to take physics, as bio, chem and physics are expected.

Why only 3, OP? If you want to keep all of your options open for a whole range of colleges across the country, then plan to have 4 maths, 4 sciences, 4 english(es?) :), 4 social studies, and 2 years of the same foreign language. Then, you’ll have just about any college’s minimum requirements fulfilled.

If you will have all of the above complete at the end of your senior year and still have a choice as to which classes to take, I would say AP bio (because it’s your favorite), AP stats (because, as you pointed out, you have to), and AP English (because just about all colleges will want 4 years of English, and you might as well make it AP if you can).

If there is another math class available to you or of interest to you, or if you think you will do poorly in AP stats, then take a regular non-AP math class instead that you think you’ll find more interesting and/or do better in, and take AP chemistry (because it will be good for your intended major, be of interest to you, and look good on your applications), AP bio, and AP English.

Just an opinion, of course … but I guess that’s what you asked for! :)

Have you completed the standard Bio/Chem/Physics science sequence?

Your senior year should consist of English, Gov/Economics, Math (AP Stats is fine), Lab Science, Foreign Language, and an elective. Choose 2 or 3 (better option as long as you don’t sacrifice your gpa) as AP’s.

Gov and econ are junior classes at my school so im taking them now. Does yearbook count as english? Ive been hoping it does. I havent taken physics but i need the ap’S and we dont have ap physics. Is it that nessisary? Because if it is ill drop on of my aps to take that…

Bex, I’m with you on this one. Especially the yearbook and the yoga! Both will give you lifetime skills that you will be glad to have a few years down the line.

When going through the process my daughter was having her transcript reviewed by an admissions officer at one of the top LACs - by junior year she had a few APs (Eng Chem Calc and Spanish) and was told to definitely take physics - AP was not necessary as she had four others planned for senior year and she was not intending to major in anything science related and she already had AP Chem - but that NOT taking physics would be a glaring hole in her transcript. We were told not to overload on APs - they should be chosen based on interest not just to impress admissions. Same with ECs - long lists are not desirable, rather a short list that is linked to genuine interest with leadership positions and/or national awards is much preferred to a laundry list.

Definitely take Physics! You need the standard 3 year sequence of lab sciences—Bio, Chem, and Physics.

^this looks good to me. I’m not sure about Yearbook. In our school district, everyone needs to take 4 years of English to graduate. Yearbook in our school district is an after school EC and not a class choice. What are your English choices for senior year?

Seriously try to complete: 4 years of history (includes gov), 4 years English, 4 years foreign language (3 at the minimum), math through calculus, bio, chem, physics, and electives. Throw in some core AP classes (lab sciences, English, History, Math, or Foreign Language).

Thank you so much for all the advice, you have no idea how much this is helping me…

I’ve already taken AP calc so that explains why i’m taking stats. And i do plan on majoring in the science field. Probably microbiology or human biology.

behrumt: It’s good to know that a lot of EC’s and overloads of Ap’s arn’t a downside it seems like most people on these forums have a huge list.

the choices for english are things like grammer, college english, contemporary lit, mythology, independent reading, all of which are 1 trimester each. And then there’s AP lang and AP lit, i just don’t know if i want to take those b/c i’m not sure if i would like them as much.

I was kind of thinking that the yearbook would then be sort of a class, and an EC that i could use. My school doesn’t have a set senior course which makes it difficult
