Good topic for an essay?

<p>For the common application essay I chose this topic:</p>

<p>Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence. </p>

<p>I wanted to talk about my little brother who has down syndrome, and the influence he's had on me, but do you guys think that the admissions people will think I want them to pity me?
Basically, do you think it's a good topic to write an essay on? </p>

<p>I’d say it all depends on how you write it. Focus on specifically how your little brother has had an impact on your character/perspective. Avoid writing in a woe-is-me tone, and it could be a very well written essay.</p>
