Eh, people tell me that too especially with my new mac; I'm not planning on having any babies soon... I don't care.

tripperian35,

studies have shown that a certain combination of heat and vibration from a laptop can cause a tumor to grow on your member. not sure of the scientific term, but in many cases, it has been fatal. in the scenario that you respond to treatment, sperm can grow abnormally.

i'm surprised you haven't heard of this. i'd recommend getting a check up. you know, just to make sure everything's in working order. it can be some serious ****.

Whoa, guess I'll be putting my laptop at the very edge of my knees from now on.

that's right.

death by p*nis. tell all your friends.

told you, you shouldnt keep it on your lap

Beware of most new Macs! They get really hot!

I only use my older, tangerine, clamshell iBook on my lap. It has a fan in the hard drive and the battery has a huge cover on it so it stays cool.

question... is it common for both people in a dorm to bring a tv, or does only one have to?

And okay, what is DVR? damn i sound dumb.

only one has to/should. There's only so much room, and you should be able to share a tv.

dvr= digital video recorder, its a box that records tv shows for you on a Hard drive and allows you to fast forward, rewind, pause and skip commercials automatically.

how much hard drive space do you need? I'm assuming u need a lot and all i have is 60gb on my laptop. is this enough? Also, is the dvr like a tv tuner where u just connect the tv cable to the dvr and the dvr to the computer?

Buy an external HDD. They are so cheap nowadays. You can probably get a 250-300GB HDD for a decent price. Check out newegg.com.

bruinboy: These days, external harddrives are getting very cheap. I saw a 300gb one a few weeks ago for $70. While $70 is a lot (in my opinion) to spend on something like that, a smaller one would do just fine and be cheaper.

You think 70 bucks for a 300GB HDD is a lot? I remember when I bought my first external HDD it was like 110 bucks for 80GB. This was like 3 or 4 years ago. About a year ago I bought another HDD to use as a slave. 250GB for 120 bucks (it had like a 4 year warrantee so it would have been cheaper if I left that out). To get a 300GB HDD for 70 bucks is a steal. I remember in fact my cousin and a friend of mine telling me like 2 months after I bought my 250GB he saw a similar deal for a 300GB ranging from 80 to 90 bucks. And it was from the same company. Things like that just make you want to wait things out sometimes.

$70/300GB = $.23 per GB
$110/80GB = $1.38 per GB

The times have changed.

On the note about laptops on your lap having severe concequences (I hope I spelled that right), my brother in law did the same thing with his laptop, and kept it on his lap. Now my sister / brother in law can't have any kids of there own because his sperm has abnormities. So my sister went through the process of getting sperm from a donor. Now my sis is pregnant! Woot going to be an uncle.

WARNING
Don't put the laptop on your nutz!

Just make sure it's a good drive for that price. If it's any drive from Maxtor, avoid it. I've had more Maxtors fail than any other brand over my years as a technician, and my friends in the field have seen this trend too.

I recommend LaCie drives. They aren't quite as cheap as what you describe here, but they are EXCELLENT QUALITY. I've got an old 160MB from 1993 that still works, plus an 80GB that I just bought recently. I also have one of their DVD-RW drives. They look great and perform well too.

I've always liked Western Digital. Never had a problem with them.

look into hitachi drives, they bought out ibm's hard drive division a while back and i have an 80gb hitachi on my old computer and it works great

wow so is it okay for girls to keep laptops on their stomachs?

How did a thread about TVs morph into another laptop discussion!?

Reading your Macbook/Macbook Pro user manual:

According to Apple, do not rest your Macbook/Macbook Pro on your lap. Apple's lawyers are warning users that the heat could cause you "discomfort". Think of them as more "notebook" computers that you rest on a solid surface (like a desk) rather than on your lap... This also means that you shouldn't lay in bed and put your Mac on top of your comforter. Don't block your air vents.

And on the Macbook Pros, the magnetic power port has a powerful magnet where your power cord attaches. Apparently, Apple advises that you to not lay your Ipod or any credit, debit or card with a magnetic strip near it because the magnet could erase it.

To be fair, some Dell laptops have exploding batteries: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=33191

so do dells seem to be safer on teh member?

i'm keeping a nice thick hard cover book under my laptop just in case.
