I am from CA but wish to teach in WA when I grow up. Are there any good WA schools that will give me a good undergrad and teaching ceritification program ASAP? I can only go if the tuition is not so expensive since I’m OOS, anyone know any colleges in WA that are good for aspiring elementary school teachers and offer OOS financial aid?
The Western Undergraduate Exchange program allows you to attend participating public U’s in Washington (and other western states) for 150% of in-state tuition or less. This tool allows you to search the schools by location and majors offered. http://wue.wiche.edu/search1.jsp
On the first pass, the WA WUE schools I see that offer an elementary education major are Washington State U (main campus and Tri-Cities campus), Western Washington, Eastern Washington, and Central Washington.
There are some excellent schools on that list that, with the discount, would be just as affordable as staying in-state. You might also qualify for merit aid, depending on your stats. If the discount and the merit aid aren’t enough and you require need-based aid to get to an affordable price, then private U’s like Gonzaga, Seattle U, and Pacific Lutheran might be more advantageous. Run the Net Price Calculators for the private U’s and see what their formulas determine your EFC to be.
