Hi Everyone,
I know it’s a bit early since the app doesn’t come out until the Fall but has anyone else been contacted by HR regarding the BOLD Internship for Summer 2017? I received an email and survey inviting me to my local Google office for on-site resume help as well as virtual opportunities with the Google Team for any assistance needed in preparation for the upcoming application.
PS: I attended the HS Symposium two years ago and I would assume the Immersion kids also get this sort of invitation.
Hey there orangeyorker! No, I have not been contacted. That sounds awesome though. Best of luck!
I read somewhere (glassdoor I think) that apps come out October 3rd, 2016
My friend applied about a month ago. She received an email stating, “Hold on tight for now, we will reach out with application information early in 2017.” Anyone else receive this email?
I applied last month but have not received anything except confirmation screens after filling out both application parts.
I got an invitation today to interview for a marketing position. Filled out the info they needed and I have two interviews in two weeks.
I spoke with some people from Google last week and I asked about it then. They said interview offers will be rolling through April. At the same time, some people have already been notified of internship offers.
If you haven’t heard back, it’s nothing to be worried about. There’s a ton of applicants and not much is done around the few weeks surrounding the holidays.
Hey guys!
I’ve been following this post for a while and decided to chime in. I applied last fall around Oct 16. I’ve been getting a few status update emails (“Holiday Greetings”, “Thanks for Applying”, “Still Reviewing App”). I pretty much gave up hope until a few days ago, since my friends who applied had interview offers and internship offers by Google as early as November.
However, I got an offer to interview for the People Ops HRA role on Jan 6th and just had my interview on January 13th. Two interviews which lasted 45min each. Pretty straight forward behavioral and hypothetical/scenario questions.
First interview was great, but second one not so much. I’m still waiting to hear back, but not expecting much. How about everyone else?
@FeiBaiLe Why type of hypothetical/scenario questions? Like pretty basic “what would you do if/when/in…” or something deeper? Why do you feel the second one didn’t go well?
My interview is next week, but not People Ops.
@briank82 The questions involved the role I would directly be doing. Something along the lines of: “if I was in charge of a project what would be the steps to handle it?” As the interviewer explained it, they aren’t really focused on your answer, but instead on the process you take. Specific steps and why you would do it that way.
For marketing I would suggest searching common behavioral and hypothetical/scenario questions. Write down your answers and practice what you would say. That’s what other Google Bold Interns in the past recommended I do. As well, make sure you’re familiar with the mission of Google and the way they market, and any case questions they might ask you. Of course you won’t know exactly what they’ll ask, but it’s a good idea to be as prepared as you can.
I messed up on the last two questions, which were hypothetical/scenario questions. First interview went pretty well though, so we’ll see what happens.
Good luck!
sorry this might be a stupid question- this internship is completely different than the google engineering practicum correct?
@ineversleep2 Yes, this is different. This program is mostly for non-engineering/tech roles and towards third year college students. The practicum is intended for first and second year college students.
Hey everyone!
I applied for the bold program back in september right as it opened up, I haven’t heard anything yet but I have heard that it can go as late as march before you hear anything so don’t give up hope!
Hey guys! I applied in October and have only received 2 emails, both being the same email but received a month apart. “Thanks for holding tight”. Kind of weird it’s the same email.
Hey everyone! I’ve heard a lot of students get placed into People Operations. What specific majors get placed into that department? Are you able to express interest in one sole department, or are you stuck with what they give you? Specifically, what major are you FeiBaiLe?
@doglover1964 When you fill out the application you select the areas you’re interested in. Google then tries to match you with a department that best fits your experience and interest. It’s kind of like a mutual selection process, except you don’t get too much say in which department selects you. However, if you select only one department you limit your chances of obtaining an internship with Google, which in the long run I feel most people want. I know a few people who were matched with GMS Sales, APMM, and People Ops. Their majors vary from business to pre-law. I’m a political science major. I wanted to be on the law team, but People Ops HRA is still a great opportunity.
On another note, I got the internship! Good luck to everyone else.
@FeiBaiLe Congrats! What was the process for you? Just the two (in one day) Google Hangout interviews? Or that followed by a final interview? How long did it take between your interview and a decision?
I did two interviews last Monday over a Google Hangout and have yet to hear back. I’ve also received an offer from a Big 4 consulting firm, so I’m hoping to hear back from Google soon either way as I can only hold off my other offer for so long.
Congratulations @FeiBaiLe !!! So happy for you Hopefully that will be me one day! Does Google usually recruit from your school?
Thanks @briank82! The process was pretty much the same as everyone else. Submitted app last fall, got a few in-between “hold on tight” sort of emails, before the interview invitation. Yes, only two interviews earlier this month. Afterwords it was radio silent for about a week and a half. I was pretty sure I didn’t get it, when out of the blue I received a phone call from my recruiter offering the internship.
Awesome, congrats on that internship opportunity! If you haven’t already filled out the competing offer form, I would just email your recruiter that you need to know soon whether or not you got the internship because of your other offer. I know in years passed that helped a few people speed up the offer process.
I hope all goes well!
Thanks @doglover1964! I hope so too!! No, they don’t. I attend a small liberal arts university in Texas. So it was surprising. However, I have friends in some of the elite universities (Harvard, Yale & Stanford) who’ve been rejected already by Google and some who’ve been accepted. All with varying grades and extracurriculars (some started their own nonprofits, others worked at big companies, and some volunteer a lot). I know that Google takes into consideration your resume and interview heavily, but not so much where you attend school.
@FeiBaiLe I go to school in Texas too! You mentioned volunteer experience, how do recruiters notice that? Through LinkedIn? Because I have a lot but it doesn’t fit on my resume. Also, did any recruiters view your profile on LinkedIn during the application process?
