Got a D first semester senior year?

Honestly I can't believe this is happening to me, I've never even come close to getting a D before, but I got one for AP Macroeconomics. It's not that I didn't try, it's just that for some reason it wouldn't click with me. I got better grades on the tests I didn't study for (out of pure guessing) than the ones I did. It's just all a nightmare.

But anyway, what's done is done, and I'm not sure how to tell the schools. I've already been accepted to the school I want to attend (LSU), along with a generous scholarship and acceptance to the Honors College.

The thing is, I'm not even sure if they see my grades. I don't want to send them a long email bringing attention to it if they aren't going to notice it in the first place, you know? Hopefully they'll understand, I'm taking four other APs, the rest being honors classes, and I made all As and Bs in them. Macro is, really, just a fluke. I don't know what happened, my teacher is great, but he said that this happens every year, there's always a handful of kids who have done really well in difficult classes before, but just don't get Macro. I'm also captain of two sports teams and president of a club, so it's not like I've just been sitting around with senioritis.

The D is final, there's nothing I can do about it. Should I email them (or call?) right away, or wait for them to notify me? I just don't know how all of this works.

Thank you!

They WILL see your grades. You need to call them to get ahead of this. Ask if it affects your admissio or scholarship. If it does ask how you can make it up.

Should I call or email?

I would advise calling or drawing attention to your senior grades! If you get in as the year progresses perhaps an explanation can be given. A great many schools will not bother looking at your senior grades unless you specifically want them to. It’s up to you to send them .

The previous message omitted the word NOT in the first sentence. Should have read : I would advise NOT calling etc.
Sorry!

I actually WOULD advise calling. You will be seen as more “proactive” in dealing with your grade issue.

i too got a D, but in AP statistics… I’m scared as well so dont worry youre not alone. I’ve never come close to a D as well… Is there anyone out there who got into a decent/good college who got a D senior year that can give me advice??!

Have you talked to your college counselor about this yet?

agree with post #8. Sit down with your GC and talk about what to do. I strongly suggest that you do contact them by a written letter to tell them of the grade & what you’ve learned from it. They will notice it this summer, thats part of their job. Pretending that it didn’t happen or hoping they won’t notice is not a mature response; owning up to it is. They may be able to work something out with you if it is important; this is where the GC can help with a phone call after you send in the letter. And worst come to worst, wouldn’t you rather know now when you have college alternatives instead of in August when your options are slim?

I talked to my GC and she helped me write an email to them (she said not to call because it has to be in writing). Right now I’m just deciding whether I should continue with AP Microeconomics; on one hand, I have learned a lot in Macro, despite my grade, and the idea of giving up really bothers me, but on the other hand, I just don’t know if I can get a C next semester. It’s not like I slacked off in Macro, I really studied, and that’s what worries me. I feel like I have no control. The more I studied, the worse my grade got.
