Got a letter in the mail from UCSB...

Hey Languages1, don't feel bad if your daughter hasn't gotten a letter. I didn't receive a letter either (but I did get a UCLA Regents Scholarship invitation), so it may be possible that the top end of the high achievers don't get this letter at all; instead perhaps they will receive a UCSB Regents Scholarship invitation. I'm just speculating, so don't get your hopes up too much.

thanks for the encouragement. Regardless, I realize she rose the bar very high so she could get into med school down the road. I really prefer her going to a good school without a scholarship vs a lower end school with a full tuition paid scholarship. Our efc came up as 0 in our family. So I imagine we will qualify for a lot of money on the grant side.

I just got my UCSB invite in the mail today!

I just got one, too :)

Does anyone how many people get this letter?

does anyone know if they send the letter according to when you sent in your apps? because my friend just received one and i think she sent her app like a day before the deadline

i may be really cocky and awful and totally wrong by saying this but-- i think i shouldve gotten a letter. my GPA, while not out of this world, is between 3.8 and 4.2 W and my SAT was 2320. oh well.

when did you send your application?

2 or 3 days before the deadline- is it just me or should i have gotten a letter

You should have...but it seems they just send them out to half the pile and left the other half there when they got lazy. People from my school with below 1900 SATs got the letter, so most you who didn't should have gotten it. Who knows.

Hey groylj2, I'm in the same situation as you with a higher UC GPA and comparable SATs, but I submitted my application on November 1st, the first day possible. Still no letter or email from UCSB....maybe something better is in store for us.

are u sure this means we're in. because i got one too, and im probably the dumbest out of everyone here

yes supposedly it means we're in + possible regents and stuff if /when u go to the reception

They look at the whole application, not just grades and test scores for the high achieving invite. The Chancellor will be at the reception and its basically about why UCSB is a great school.

interesting. We did not get invited to this. I was told my daughter was accepted though and she had really high scores and grades. She was accepted under the ELC program. But I guess not good enough for this reception.

I was ELC evaluated but not accepted under the program. I had already completed 6 AP's and 1 college course by the end of my junior year. UC's have a max. of 4 AP classes which lowered my gpa, but because of the class schedule I took and the combination of my ec's is why I think I recieved the invite. My friend who was ELC did get this invite last year. He was also accepted to UCB, but loved UCSB atmosphere. He is very happy at UCSB.

Did anyone who got this invitation also get Regents notification? or is this reception just for high achieving apllicants not good enough for scholarship?

I got the same thing in the mail!

My son received the “highly achieving students” letter last week and just today received the Regents Scholarship! Yay! We are thrilled.
