I'm in world history AP right now, and I need some help with my upcoming DBQ tomorrow. On my 1st DBQ i got a 5. On the second I got a 4. The reason I got a 4 on the second one is because I didn't answer the question correctly. The question said to compare and contrast but i analyzed instead. I think that's my biggest problem. Can someone explain to me the different types of questions DBQ as for. Such as analyze, describe, and compare/contrast. What's the difference between analyze and describe. All other tips would be helpful as well.

When you analyze, you infer. You discuss historiography in the DBQ. When you describe, you give a description of things, you tell.

What are the differences between, analyze, describe, show, evaluate, and discuss in a dbq questions? Examples would help

They are exactly what they sound like…

they all basically sound the sme to me. I don’t understand how the DBQ will be written any different if i were asked to analyze instead of discussing.

They aren’t really all that different. Basically, just talk about the topic. For DBQ’s, that’s really easy. Separate the sources into 3 groups that essentially capture the same idea. Using those 3 categories, write the thesis.
Say the prompt is to discuss the effect of the Europeans on the Muslims, and you have all the documents. You might have a thesis like this:
As a result of the interaction between Europe and the Middle East during the post-classical period, category 1, _category 2, and category 3.
or if you feel there may have been good and bad sides:
Although the interaction between E and ME during the PC period brought 1, it 2 and 3.

What’s your DBQ out of? 9? 5?

^I think all history DBQ’s (US, Euro, World) are scored out of nine.
