Hi all, I got accepted into Columbia Univ's CS Masters Program through email, on 3/10. Now its been almost 1 month, and I have not received any formal offer letter/package from them. In the acceptance email, I was told I should expect a mailing.

Is this normal, for college to send an acceptance notice through email then wait a month before sending any packages? Anyone in a similar boat?

Rest assured that this is normal. The department accepts you, and can email (or call) accepted applicants.

The Graduate School (the administrative unit) has to send letters. (Legal reasons. For the same reasons, they, not the departments, have to send letters of rejection.)

Keep in mind that ALL graduate programs have to send their lists of accepted students to the administrative staff of the Graduate School, and then, letters must be generated.

Yep, it can take a while sometimes, especially when the DGS of the department takes his/her time getting the paperwork over to the Graduate School. I've been guilty of this in the past. I have since reformed. ;)

Professor X is referring to grad schools in general. If you are still particularly concerned after the Professor's explanation, invest in a phone call to Columbia.

I called up again today, the phone goes directly to a automatic welcome message asking for me to leave a message. And when I try to leave a message, it says the msg box is full so I can't leave any message.

So no one picks up the phone, no one answers the email.

I called every number I could find on the University's website and the department's website, never was able to get through to any numbers, always get various auto greetings. And I emailed 3 different email addresses, and no one replied.

It's unfortunate you're in this situation, but I'm really not surprised at the lack of replies to your inquiries; That's the norm from what I can tell. Best of luck, but keep fighting!

did you receive enrollment info? I received a followup email from them to all admitted students within the entire graduate school after getting stuff from the department in the mail. Different engineering department though.

Hi Blah2009, which program did you apply to? I am applying to MS in Computer Science, and ever since the initial email that says you've been admitted, I have not received ANYTHING from them AT ALL.
