Got Accepted Into UCLA.. but I messed up!

So I got accepted into UCLA as a transfer, and I was doing pretty well in my classes up until Finals Week where I had to submit a final paper for one of my classes which was 200 points and I completely MISSED the whole point of the paper and I got like a 30/200. So that brought my mid-B down to a D. Kinda sucks that all it took was one paper to mess everything up, but it’s totally my fault so I understand. What do you think my best course of action is? I just emailed the admissions people at UCLA and even though the grades are not “official”, my teacher is really up to date with her Blackboard and posted the grades early. So my final grades are A, B, B, D for this last semester. Someone suggested that I take it over the summer but it was one of those upper division courses they only offer during Spring or Fall sometimes. The class was not part of my major requirements, too. I would have dropped but I thought I was doing well in the class. I thought wrong.

How does that affect your overall GPA?

Eh, my transfer GPA doesn’t really count cuz I got a bunch of A’s so it’s actually higher now tbh.

You’ll need to look at your conditional contract. For me at Berkeley, I had to have a 3.0 for th semester and not fail any classes. It doesn’t look good honestly.

I would not say that it does not look good. I’d say it is hard to tell. Once a student is accepted to a school that new college is already invested in the student. Having fewer people arrive in the fall then anticipated is not a welcomed event on the part of the school. Instead of relying on email, I’d have called the school. I think you should still call the school on Monday and discuss the situation with them.

He is conditionally accepted, pending he meets the conditions set forth in his admissions contract. That usually sets a GPA requirement for the semester and not failing any classes.

For most UC’s this is spelled out pretty clearly that offers will be rescinded if these conditions aren’t met.

Find your contract and see what it says. I don’t have UCLA’s info handy, but here’s UCSC’s on the topic and it’s pretty clear: http://admissions.ucsc.edu/apply/conditions-faq.html#transfer

I’m not trying to me negative or pessimistic, but it doesn’t look good. Definitely call ASAP and see if there’s anything you can do though.

The only one who can tell you is the UC. The fact that it was not a major requirement and your GPA is still high is encouraging. But who knows?

thanks for the help, guys. I’ll go ahead and contact UCLA on monday and see what happens!

just to update my situation in case someone else has had this issue, the ucla admissions people said i still good to go for UCLA
