Ok I got into both schools with statistics major in this fall 2015.
I did not do well last quarter and I did not even expect i will get into UCB.
Apparently, my gpa for winter 2015 was not meeting admission contract, so I actually reported to admission office.
While I was waiting for decision from ucb, I SIRed to UCLA just to make sure I can transfer out.
I just got an email from ucb that they will still sustain my admission without saying any specific GPA that I must get in this spring quarter 2015.
I tried to look for similar cases, but I couldn’t find any.
So my question is: Will they change/revise my condition in the future(Probably after deadline of SIR)? or what is exactly they are expecting me to get? Also, it would be great if someone can provide any similar case as I have
Things just got complicated, and I was waiting for response for two weeks.
I could not make my decision even though I already SIRed to UCLA.
Thank you for reading my lengthy posting!
I am not sure what you are saying. If you told them your actual grades and they said OK, then you’re fine. If you did not tell them your actual grades, you are a bit in a bind because the SIR deadline is Monday. I usually never say this but maybe SIR to both and find out early next week the status and withdraw from one as soon as possible.
I feel bit of relief! Thank you, and Yes! they actually wanted me to send my unofficial transcript, which I did.
They said your admission is sustained so what’s the problem.
cuz I was expecting they would provide revised condition like 3.0 gpa combined, but I am very skeptical about getting 3.5 higher(cuz I am taking less units) this quarter.
What did your original UCB contract say?
If they didn’t make any changes, it means they are still assuming you’ll meet the original.
Do you want to go to UCB more than UCLA?
I dont get it… I reported cuz i cannot meet the condition…How I can meet the original condition? My contract is 3.0 for each term
“I just got an email from ucb that they will still sustain my admission without saying any specific GPA that I must get in this spring quarter 2015.”
and
“My contract is 3.0 for each term”
What I mean is that they cleared/accepted your WINTER grades, and for your SPRING GRADES they are assuming you will still meet your original contract.
Are you going to get a 3.0 this spring?
thanks for your reply, and yeah I am pretty confident that i can get 3.0 this quarter! just worrying about getting 3.5 is too risky cuz I am still taking two major courses. I still have finals which is huge chunk of grades would affect my final grade T.T So you are saying i am safe? if I am getting 3.0 higher this quarter?
I’m not sure what you mean by " just worrying about getting 3.5 is too risky cuz I am still taking two major courses"
Here is what you just sent me:
"I couldn’t leave a post, so I am leaving a message…
I did not explain my situation in the beginning. I got 2.5 in Winter, so I reported to UCB admission that I am not meeting my condition.
While I was waiting for their decision, I found one similar case( but I am not sure its she or he) According to his/her situation, UCB provided the revised condition which was average 3.0 instead of 3.0 for each term. I was just making hypothetical situation since that was the only case I found so far.
I just want to minimize risk since he/she was nearly getting 3.0 which was easier for satisfying revised condition, but my situation is really hard to meet that condition(if I get same condition as him/her, I must get higher than 3.5)
I am very skeptical about getting higher than 3.5… this quarter and still I am attending college(quarter system)
My real question is: They literally cleared my grades for winter or they just reached a decision to sustain my admission and they will provide another condition in future…
Thank you in advance…"
My understanding from what you’ve posted is that a) you honestly reported your Winter grades, b) UCB did not rescind your application, c) UCB did not give you a revised contract, nor did they change it to an average 3.0 for both semesters.
Therefore, while you should try your hardest to get the highest GPA possible, you are probably fine getting a 3.0 in Spring.
Read your contract and any emails they have sent you to triple check that they did not change any thing about your contracts.
Looks like the UCB statistics department requires you to complete Statistics 134 or 135 with a B- or better to declare the statistics major: http://statistics.berkeley.edu/programs/undergrad/major
The UCLA statistics department seems to have less stringent requirements: http://statistics.ucla.edu/undergraduate-program/statistics-major
I have been a math tutor for an year at my current cc, and used to be a stat tutor as well so I think i can handle it
Oh sorry I did not explain my situation, so I got 2.5 GPA in Winter. I found one similar case, but I am not sure its he or she. According to his/her revised condition, it was average 3.0 instead of 3.0 for each term. I was just making hypothetical situation since it was the only case I found so far. Also, I want to make sure they will provide specific GPA condition in future. If they just literally cleared my winter grade, it would be awesome tho… T_T
I really appreciate your time spending on my case!
Thanks for your sincere advice.^^ I think from now on its totally on my decision!.. I am just sad that I received this message from ucb very late although I submitted my report two weeks ago…T_T
