Got binned for college prep scholarship -- should I still apply for college match?

I applied for the college prep scholarship last spring and got rejected. Is it still worth applying to college match or is it pointless?

I’m not a URM or First-Generation and my family’s income is around 40k but it’s exclusively in untaxed social security benefits. (My dad died and the benefits are from that)

My stats are (because I know CC loves stats) as follows:

SAT: 2280 (800 CR, 730 M, 750 WR)
SAT II : 800 US History 780 Lit
GPA 4.0 (Buttt I’m homeschooled; however, of the four classes I took at a community college last year, all were A’s)
EC’s: Intern for Obama Campaign in 2012, Captain of Academic-y Quiz Bowl type thing but with books, Treasurer for Psi Beta (it’s an honors society in Psychology at the community college I go to – how I was ever elected treasurer is beyond me) and that’s pretty much it. I have a hard time finding clubs to pad my ECs list with because I don’t go to a school where all that ish is easily available.

Anyway, the Questbridge application is long, and tedious, and requires asking for recommendations, and I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be better to just not apply and save myself the time and energy. The only thing that’s changed between the college prep scholarship and now, is that I took the SAT. My grades, subject test scores and EC-y things are all the same.

So, CC, should I apply for college match or is Questbridge just going to tell me to pound salt again?

EDIT: Oh, also, (and this is kind of important) my family has roughly 500k in assets from two different homes. My family doesn’t live in or rent out either house but both houses are shown for us because the bank hasn’t foreclosed (for some reason even though we haven’t kept up with payments in 7+ years) and my mother, who is at this point my sole parent because my father passed away last year, isn’t capable of selling either house – she’s at a point where she’s barely of sound mind due to personal problems. Other people in my family have tried to help her w/ selling either/both houses but she’ll routinely lie until they aren’t willing to help her anymore.

Oh, I guess this is a cool added question: CC, if I do apply to college match, how can I down play the fact that my family has 500k in assets? The mortages pretty much swallow up all of that value, but, it’s still high for QB. Would it be bad to talk about my mother/family life and explain that’s why it’s the way it is? Would that just come across as sharing too much/reaching for excuses?

Holy crap, just apply. If we are going to get technical here, tell me who Questbridge is for. It’s not for URMs in the racial sense only. It is for low income students who have shown promise!!! You are one of them. You have all summer to complete this. Do you know how amazing your application is? You do significantly better than wealthy, white suburbanites. You do better than virtually everyone. You have this issue of money as a hurdle to jump over and regardless, you still ran the entire lap. You are a motivated student who cares about academics. If QB rejects you, it’s their loss. They didn’t accept a good student when one showed up with such amazing stats. Don’t worry about college prep. It’s not an indicator of very much. NCM matters more. There are other scholarships and aid for people like yourself anyway. Maybe apply ED. You’re fantastic. Don’t be afraid to go beyong QB.
