So I’m a good student and all, but we all have our moments. I’m a sophomore in high school and I was caught using my phone today to look up answers on a chem test. If this goes on my record, will colleges see it when I apply and use it against me? Can it affect their trust in me?
Most likely it will show up. I would ask your GC about what the consequences are and how it will look on your transcript, if your school reports it. Cheating is a serious thing-especially in HS. I really do not know how much it will affect admissions, but if I was the one reviewing your application, I would be at least a little bit alarmed. Better it happen now than in junior or senior year I suppose.
Not just “Got CAUGHT cheating”, but “CHEATED.”
There’s a huge difference. One places the blame on the person who caught you, the other takes responsibility for your actions.
To answer your question though, you won’t be the first person with something like that on your record who applied, and got into, a wide variety of colleges.
If you are trying to get into any type of NHS, whether it is Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society etc, then it will impact you. At my school, if you cheat, you can’t get in. if you are already in and you cheat, you get kicked out. But I think you’ll be fine. It’s only one test after all.
The real problem is that it brings your whole character into question.
