Got deffered. Some advice?

@chronome, I agree. Pitt Honors requires at least 1450 CR+M SAT and a 4.0 UW GPA. Unless your friend has ECs off the planet, and even then, I highly doubt she will get in.

Does anyone know the rate of deferred applicants who are eventually accepted? I know this question has been raised before, but maybe some new convo will produce an answer.

I don’t think there is a written percent anywhere because it really depends. I’ve done a ton of research recently on this, and in past posts I’ve seen and everything, most people who are denied/deferred usually don’t do much about it…I think it really depends on how much you want to go to the school and what you do to try and change your chances (sending in new SAT scores and interim grades, writing a letter, having adviser write a letter).

I’d like to say that probably half (or maybe more as long as they show significant change) of the people who try and do something about a deferral are accepted, as long as they show some sort of improvement like an upward trend in grades with new GPA or new SAT scores that are better than the last ones (reason depending on WHY they deferred you).

People might also be getting deferred because they want to save you for later because the school you are applying to is really competitive, and you are borderline and there might be people with a certain area of better stats. I think from what I’ve seen in past posts is people who continue to be active in their admission even after they are deferred are usually accepted, maybe even just because they show a lot of interest continually.

Yeah, I’m sure a lot of people don’t even want to deal with the entire process that you have to go through once deferred. But has anybody scheduled an interview or has experience with an interview at Pitt?

According to [University Honors College | Undergraduate Bulletin | University of Pittsburgh](http://www.bulletins.pitt.edu/undergrad/38-uhc.htm#admissreq): “Entering freshmen having a combined SAT I score above 1400 and ranking in the top 5 percent of their high school graduating class are automatically qualified to take any UHC course whose prerequisites have been satisfied.”

Aduli It is your GPA I am guessing. 3.5 W is a bit low for engineering. You could switch your major possibly, but if engineering is what you want. Keep your grades way up and have your counselor inquire. good luck I got in with w GPA 3.85 and ACT 26 into A&S history
