I just got into Berkeley, which is great! But I definitely applied to the College of Letters and Sciences, but my acceptance letter says I got into the College of Natural Resources.

Does anyone know what's up? Did it say somewhere that you aren't necessarily going to be accepted to the school you applied to? I'm really concerned, because I'm definitely interested in going to Berkeley but nothing in the College of Natural Resources appeals to me at all.

maybe they didn’t have enough room in L&S but thought you were talented enough for Berkeley? I think there’s always the option of changing colleges once you get in.

Something like that happened to me too. I put down some sort of biology major, thinking it was in LS, but was actually in CNR. So I just went into CNR my first semester (and for CalSO), but right after your first semester you can switch into LS really easily. Don’t worry about it.

I thought I listed Computer Science… I don’t see any way they would think NR would work for that, unless they’re essentially rejecting me but giving me the choice to come to a less-occupied college.

Does Berkeley admit by major, or just by college? I put down EECS as my first choice, and got accepted, but the acceptance page just mentions CoE, and nothing about EECS.

But that makes sense because Engineering is the right school for you. I know I’ll be fine if I take some core classes at first and then switch Colleges. The problem is that I think the CNR thing is a mistake, or if it isn’t, I want confirmation that I was supposed to go there.

Seriously, I wouldn’t worry about it. YOU GOT IN. Just maintain a decent GPA your first semester and then fill out some forms to transfer colleges. Simple as that.

Check your UC application to make sure the major you selected was in the College of Letters & Science. If Berkeley indeed admitted you into CNR when you had indicated L&S, don’t despair. Call the admissions office and ask whether a mistake was made and whether you can be moved to L&S. Even if you are stuck with CNR for now, you simply need to stay there for a year before transferring to L&S as undeclared; it’s a matter of filing paperwork.

I started out in CNR but decided to head over to CED, with a stop over at L&S in my second year (less restrictions on GE courses). It’s just a matter of knowing how to maneuver around the bureaucracy. Don’t be discouraged.

It’s not a big deal. People who get into L&S are undeclared until their second year anyway. it shouldn’t be a problem if u want to switch into it.

The SAME exact thing happened to me! I wasn’t sure what to make of it, or even if I had accidentally selected a major in CNR, but I know for sure that I want to be in L&S in order to major life science/pre-health. :/
