Got into UCSB but worried about A-G requirement

Hey guys,
I just got into UCSB and I'm pretty stoked on it considering that I'll probably be enrolling. It's just that I know that the UCs require the A-G requirements and I've completed them all but the foreign language requirement. I don't have two years of a consecutive language, taking one year of american sign language and one year of japanese. I tried taking a second year japanese course online but it doesn't look like I'll be able to finish by the end of my senior year. I'm fluent in korean and I looked into taking a test to test out of the requirement but the tests are only offered in november. What are the odds of UCSB rescinding me and is there anything I can do to be able to enroll in the fall regardless of my language requirement? I'm pretty stressed out because its sort've lame not to be able to go just because I didn't take one language class hahaha. Letme know if you guys have heard or had any similar experience or situation...

thanks

I’m not a counselor, let me be clear about that, but without completing the A-G requirements then you may not even be eligible to attend a UC. You should be in your HS counselor’s office today to see what you can do about this. There may be some wiggle room, but don’t wait, find out!

You need to call UCSB and make a plan. I think they will want to work with you, particularly since you tried completing it on line. If you are able to finish online over the summer with an approved provider, maybe that will work for them, or maybe they know a way to test out of the requirement in Korean in the proper time frame, but they will need to approve that because it doesn’t satisfy the typical requirements. Good luck - and don’t put it off. CALL them.

I agree - call them NOW. How about taking the Korean AP test (if there is one)

Ahhh damn I should call them. I looked into the AP test and a korean one isnt offered.

Have you guys heard of no one being able to attend a UC without completing their A-G requirements?

@bubthemaka Send a question to Ms Sun on Ask fm. She usually answers w/in a couple of days. You could search her blog too.

Are you in-state? I think if you are coming from out of state, they might be a little bit more lenient because it might not be a graduation requirement in your state, but here in California, it is. You should talk to your admissions counselor.

Yeah, I’ll be calling them tomorrow. Yeah Im from california but it wasnt a graduation requirement for my high school.

If you were admitted, I would think that the admissions officers were aware of what classes you did, or did not take. If you were admitted without taking the proper foreign language classes, they presumably knew that and admitted you anyway, so it would be pretty messed up of them to rescind their decision because they didn’t realize what you told them initially in your app.

@UCTheatre I think the OP is saying he had projected finishing it in time, through an on line course, but that he won’t be finished on time, as it turns out.

To the OP, the closest official information I have read has to do with getting a D in an a-g course which is a little different (because it also shows poor scholarship). The passage is as follows:

It looks like there might BE options, but that you have to work it out, whether there are options, with the admissions office.

Good luck!
