@asphyxiac Thank you so much!!
@pianocat they never said I needed to finish physics 2 with a certain grade. The email itself after my tag got accepted was actually pretty vague. I know now that as a condition of my admission, I’m required to receive at least a C in any courses that were put on my application as planned or in progress, and I’m not so sure that’s a possibility for me.
As for the reason why I’d like to drop the course, not only is my professor one of the worst I’ve ever had, but I went through a rough patch back in January and February and was depressed. I’m not sure thats a legitimate reason to be failing a class though. Anyways, I’ll be calling admissions tomorrow at UCSB so I will let you know what they say!!
Thanks for everyones help!

so i’m assuming you didn’t hear from UCSD yet since we are both Bio majors.

you think they will tell you to finish that calc class? because they will assume you are still taking it?

I didnt get the letters yet, but do they really tell you “You have to finish _____ with a B or above”? Seems unlikely to me. Although Idk

@pianocat

I’m a bio major as well and I have yet to hear from UCSD. I’ll wait to see if I get admitted first, and then I will worry about dropping that class.

@both of yous

My friend got in as a bio major last year and she didn’t finish calc 2 until fall 2010 at UCSD. So, take that as what you will. UCSD is more concerned about people getting into the school than getting into the major. For UCSD, I’m biochem/bioinformatics - not bio. Bio is impacted, and eff that shiz.

Smart move with biochem. I definitely regret trying to transfer as a bio major now that it’s impacted everywhere!

@RunMCR yes they really do that. UCI did that for me. you know that part of the contract where it says any additional attachments to this contract have to be fulfilled blah blah blah that part. they usually list a class there and say you have to get at least a B or a C in that class. some people have it some people don’t. i mean it makes sense if you are taking a major prereq and they see that, they would tell you to finish it in order for your TAG be valid.

but nobody yet that has TAG’d said they had to finish a class in their contract or maybe they are not saying anything i don’t know

So I just called Sb admissions office and the admissions officer said that my class could be dropped and not affect my admittance because I had so many units completed

^ cool is this for UCSD?
Also what is your major?
Did they tell you to finish it on their transfer condition contact or they didn’t even mention it?
Is it a major prereq?
Are you TAGd

no this is for UCSB. i’m a bio major and they did not mention it on the transfer condition contract. I did TAG and i don’t think this is a major prereq, but i’m not so sure.

Piano, afaik, bio majors at uci have to finish core bio classes with a B or higher. SB has a similar policy. Also, if you drop chem 102, you’ll be 3 chem courses behind schedule. Non transfers complete orgo in sophomore year, and orgo is required for the last two lower division bio courses, which are prereqs for every other bio course. If you finish chem 102 in the summer, you will have to take orgo in fall concurrently with genetics so that you can take orgo 2 with biochem in winter. Meaning that you won’t be able to do any majors coursework til spring 2012. The two core classes that they want all bio majors to have prior to transfer is a full year of bio and a full year of chem, plus calc.

If you really think you can’t get above a B in chem, ask for a major change. Or call admissions and talk to someone. No one on this forum will be able to help you in the way an admissions counselor could.

Just got the admission package…It was just a piece of paper referring back to the online contract…So, I think I’m good.

I an kind of in the same situation as you guys. I dropped and received W in math 119 which is the Elementary Statistics. The class was not part of my major requirement or tag or igetc. I’ll have 60 transferable semester units with certified IGETC and TAG completed by the end of Spring semester.

Does dropping Statistics 119 affect my TAG at UCSD? I am a Political Science major.

Thanks!

yeah, I was in a similar situation, but as far as UCSD goes, they recommend you take your pre-reqs but they don’t require you to have them when you get into UCSD.
