Hi, so when I was using the college blue book, and princeton review test I normally averaged 2100-2200, but on this January SAT i only recieved a 1930.
Im pretty shocked at this. Can I attribute this as the 1/100 chance of it occuring? If I was to take the test tomorrow, would I be more along my average. I mean I understand a 50 point loss but this is nearly a 300 point spiral.

How should I now better prepare the next time around so I would atleast hit my averages?
Where should I get more practice tests? (Blue Book and A princeton review book are done)

What Books should I use/How should I go about this to make sure this doesn't happen again?

I have the direct Hits, college blue book, and a princeton review book.

I understand I can get 10 more tests from the collegboard online course. Where else shall I get tests from, and how else shall I practice/overall improve.

See if any of your friends have tests from the Collegeboard QA service. The Blue Book tests are outdated and are much easier than the actual test.

The first line contains reasonable and helpful advice. The second line is, of course, incorrect. Easier tests (when true) are subject to a harder curve. In the end, the scores are always comparable.

Getting a lower score on the “real” test simply indicates a lacking practice. A good start would be to abandon relying on poor tests such as the ones offered by PR et al.

Go back and use TCB material only, including the older versions, the available QAs, and the online material. Running out of tests is a canard.

Actually I agree with hangooksaram as well :-B The old tests seemed easier to me =P The thing is that, when the tests in the BB were released, no one knew a lot about the new SAT. Not many reference books were available, and students certainly did not know some of the “tricks” that some students now utilize to get a high score. Take the vocab section for example. Nowadays, most of the books include the words that appeared in the old tests, so the students doing the old tests can easily finish all the vocab questions. But for the new tests, the CB has to update some new “strange-looking” words, which can be quite an obstacle for the SAT takers.

Hence the whole “new tests harder than old tests” is probably just our own imagination. The writing and math stay the same, but the CR part is “different”, which gives us the impression that the new tests are harder.

Putting all that aside, I must say that the curve nowadays is a little bit harsher :3 Furthermore, it cannot be denied that some of the curves are quite unfair. The test was definitely not all that easy and yet the curve is ridiculously harsh. But these just prove that luck can play quite a role in the SAT right?

Alright thanks I guess I’ll just look for more prior papers.

But I do feel that this january test was harder and the curve unrealistic, although that may be my imagination. I just didnt forsee a 300 point drop.

Regardless, I should just use more practice papers? Any other specific book that anyone believed was helpful?
