I just took the May SAT and I got a 400 points lower than the score that I usually get from the practice tests. I honest don't know what I did wrong because I thought I did pretty good on the test. Math is my strongest section and yet I scored 640 on the SAT while I scored around 700 on average in the practice test. Is this normal? I need some advice because I'm really lost right now.

What practice tests were you using?
Were they the ones from the Blue Book or a third party book?

400 points is a HUGE difference if you were taking tests from the Blue Book . I dropped only 100 points from my practice tests and I already thought that was significant enough.

I’m kind of confused though. You mention the math section and how you dropped around 60 points. Does this mean you dropped 340 points or around 170 points each on the other sections?

Also, if you ordered the QAS, I would check it carefully to see if there were any mistakes in the marking (i.e. you distinctly remember putting down a different answer than what it says you put down). You can order a manual rescore, but from what I’ve heard, usually the scores are accurate and it just wastes your money.

But don’t worry, you should still have time to retake it!

I first used the blue book as practice and I basically went through the whole book and my score was around 2000 when I reached the end which was test #10. I started to use 3rd party book from then such as Princeton and Kaplan. I did really bad on the other two sections, I expected to do bad on the reading but not the writing since I spent a month prepping for it. I guess that I need to practice more since I took this test when I’m a sophomore.

Oh GOOD you’re a sophomore!
Lots more time.

The thing is about 3rd party books is that their scores aren’t necessarily as accurate. If you only finished the 10 in the book, I have good news; there are more available! You can get 6 more I think in the online CB tutorial, and you can also take the official practice tests on the CB website.

There was probably a glitch in the test. Reset the operating system, and after the results come back in, go ahead and give yourself a system update, you deserve it.

Seriously, you’re not a computer. You’re human. You’re allowed to make mistakes. Just take it again, and study more if you feel like you need it.

And remember, it’s not all about a score. Don’t try to be another bar on a chart.

Take it again but this time practice ONLY on official tests. Get online course and try getting as many QAS as possible.
